I'm a foreigner married to a Chinese Singaporean for more than a year...right now, I'm staying in Singapore to give birth for our baby.
Last September 17, we invited a friend of mine to visit us and to attend my simple baby shower. Her flight was Jetstar 3K562 Manila-Singapore and she reached the Changi Airport around 2:15 in the afternoon. She's been in Singapore once and we don't know where she stayed on her previous visit.
When my husband going to fetch her on the airport, she sms us that she been hold in immigration office so my husband called the immigration to find out the reason why. But the officer said that its confidential and she must return to Manila as soon as possible. We don't even allowed to see her until the communication between us been cut also. We don't even know what offense she did to treat that way when she stayed in Singapore. The only thing my husband can do is to ask her flight going back to Manila.
September 18, 10:00 in the morning.. I ask my mom to fetch my friend in the airport in Ninoy Aquino International Airport to find out what really happened to her here in Singapore. She said the Immigration officer said that she's using different address here in Singapore before so they didn't allow her to go through, we really can't see any point of using different address, maybe they should give her more acceptable reason for not letting her in. The worst part was they get USD $400 from her, she asked what is that for and the officer said that its for their SERVICE CHARGE, ACCOMMODATION, REBOOKING of her TICKET and for her FOOD coz she stayed there for the whole night to wait for her flight going back to Manila. When my friend don't want to pay and told them that it's not her fault to stay there for the whole night...the officer said that if she's not going to pay, she will stay there.
I told myself before that Singapore is very safe country, and I'm so proud to tell to all my friends back to my country that Singapore is corruption-free country but after I've heard what happened to my friend, it really disappoint me. USD $400 for one night stay in Immigration office??? Does my friend got a VIP treatment over there? Or did she sleep in a penthouse to spend that certain amount just for a whole night?
We tried to contact the Airport Immigration on that day to ask who's in charge and find out if asking for that amount is needed but their mailbox is full for the whole day so we cant get an answer.

I hope Singapore Government won't tolerate this kind of system coz it will destroy the reputation of one of the good country I've known.
