I was notified by Independence Honda E-mail the 2009 Honda Fit Automatic, silver in color, was in stock. After a few more e-mails I got a pre-qualified certificate from Honda for a loan. I notified the Dealer, who was aware of my clunker status, that I would meet with him. On August 21st at 10:02am I asked his schedule. He replied at 11:14am, that he would be there until 8:00pm Friday and 3:00pm Saturday. I replied I would be there before 10:00am Saturday.
I was excited to be included in the Cash for Clunkers Program, looking forward to my new car in the morning.
I listened to the evening news and found that the Program would end on Monday, August 24th. As I had most of the arrangements made and was going in to purchase the Honda Fit early, I felt secure.
I arrived at the Independence Honda Dealership at 9:00am, Saturday. I asked for George, the sales manager. The salesperson went into George's office and after allot of discussion between them and 5 minutes later, the salesperson came out of the office, introduces himself, we shook hands. Then came the big boomer. The salesperson stated he was assigned to help us and that the dealership had a meeting after hours on Friday, the 21st, and decided they would no longer honor the Cash for Clunkers program. He offered to appraise our "Clunker" and do a regular deal on the Honda Fit we wanted. Of course, I refused that offer.
My wife was in tears as we were driving home, I was upset, we spent up until 2:00pm that day trying to find a dealer that still honored the program, but they were honestly out of all economy cars.
If I did't have bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all.
I'm sure the salespeople knew what was coming and they could have called us or at least honored the commitments to people they were in touch with, the cars were sitting right there on the lot of the Independence Honda in Bloomsburg, PA.
