My mother is 72 years old who received chemo at JHU in Maryland in 1998 for her cancer treatment. These days she lives in Wisconsin and is suffering from Overactive bladder and other Urology related problems. She has consulted few doctors in Wisconsin. We are interested in finding out whether she can get a Pace maker for bladder. We are getting conflicting information from her doctors in Wisconsin and so we wanted another opinion at JHU - it being a well-recognized hospital and also because she received good care for her cancer. I, myself, am a patient at JHU-GYN. My mother has Medicare and Medicaid from Wisconsin. When I tried to make an appointment, I was told that she could not be seen at JHU because she has Medicaid from Wisconsin. We offered to pay in advance in CASH but we were still refused. However, at the same time, they will take International patients who will pay the whole cost up-front. We - since we do have Medicare, will only have to pay 20%.

There is certainly something wrong here. What they seem to be saying is that they will not offer medical treatment to poorer American Citizens who don't live in MD. But they will offer it to people visiting from outside of the country because they can charge them enormous amount of money.

I tried calling the appointment desk few times but they keep transferring me to Customer Service who transfers me to Admittance for some reason and from there on I get cut off.
