I've tried unsubscribing from the InformationWeek E-mail newsletter countless times. I've even tried e-mailing them directly. I've marked them as spam, but they use a different "From" address almost every time. I'm submitting this complaint because I've had enough of InformationWeek, TechWeb and all of their other affiliates. Hopefully, other people will learn from my mistake of subscribing to their newsletter.
I work on the web, so I know how E-mail marketing should work. The CAN-SPAM act states that every E-mail sent to a list of subscribers needs an unsubscribe link. The E-mails sent from InformationWeek do indeed have an unsubscribe link, which takes you to a form. On this form, you can manage your subscription status. Supposedly, by unchecking the boxes and submitting the form with your E-mail address, you should be removed from the unchecked newsletters. I've tried that a number of times with no success.
When I mark the InformationWeek newsletters as SPAM in Gmail, they send the newsletter from a different address and a different domain. Sometimes, it's "[email protected]" or "[email protected]." Now that I marked both of those addresses as SPAM, I'm interested to see what InformationWeek or TechWeb address they'll send it from this time.
To summarize, don't subscribe to any InformationWeek or TechWeb E-mail newsletters. You'll never be able to unsubscribe.
