Overbilling
I used a pay phone in the Puerto Vallarta airport. Before I had the call connected, I asked for the rates from the operator. I was quoted 8 cents a minute to Canada. Connection charges were not mentioned. When I returned home, my credit card showed a bill of $100. My credit cared told me to call the customer service #. When I spoke with the customer service rep, he told me that an 8 cent a minute rate did not exist and that the rate was $3.50 a minute, with $17.50 connection fee. When I argued that I had been lied to, he offered me a $40 rebate. I refused and said I wanted to speak with a supervisor. Of course, the supervisor was not in. I decided to do some research before calling back. I have found dozens of pages listing dozens upon dozens of complaints about this company. People have gone to great lengths to take action against this company - listing the company's address, form letters to the Better Business Bureau and advice on how to file complaints. However, the way I see it, it is my credit card's (Visa) responsibility. They provide an instrument for commercial transactions. And companies like International Satellite Communications are using these instruments to exploit and steal money from Visa's clients. Consider the $ we pay our credit card companies for their services.. The very least credit card companies can do is use their power to help discourage this type of activity. I called my bank and explained the situation, the history complaints against this company, that Intnl. Sat. Comms customer service was a scripted attempt to appease victims with a rebate and that I was lied to by the operator on the phone. My bank rep was very helpful. She put the charges on hold until Intnl. Sat Comms can provide proof of the charge breakdown (not that I have high hopes), but more importantly, she is forwarding the complaint to Visa to have them look into the company, as well as forwarding the complaint to Intnl Sat. Comm's bank so they have a record of the complaint. Call your bank and credit card company. Tell them to get involved. Ask them for advice, but also, insist that they take action at the institutional level. After all, their entire business model depends on their ability to offer a secure and reliable method of financial transactions.

Taking advantage. Buyer beware
$41.91 for a 30 sec phone call!!?? No information, no guidance, no warning, etc. Having traveled internationally for many years, I understand that a call using your credit card is going to be higher, but this is "extra special". Action will be taken.

International Calls
My name is Eudoxia Roufakis. I made two phone calls which I wasn't able to get through when I was in Sandal Grande Antigua Resort. They charged me $17.53 for the first time and $17.50 on 10/7/2010 by my credit card, Chase. Please, don't use the phones to call home from the Antigua Resort in the Sandals Resort. I called them and they are rude and arrogant. They wasted my time on how to they were justify to charge me.

OVERBILLING
I made five (5) phone calls from the Rome Airport to a LOCAL Rome CELL phone number. NONE of the calls went through.
When I received my bill EACH of the calls came to nearly $41 (US) for a total of more than $200.00
When I phoned the company they REFUSED to rebate the money, saying they had a policy of charging a 5 minute minimum. THIS WAS NOT A CONTRACTUAL obligation. I was making calls from a PAY PHONE at the Rome Airport.
Moreover, I was cut off three times in trying to get through. I first spoke with Charlie and when I asked him for the ADDRESS of the company, I was put on hold and eventually was disconnected.
I called again and spoke with Brian and asked him to connect me with Charlie.
Brian said he couldn't transfer the call without first getting my VISA card number.
I said Charlie had all the information, so just put me through. This nonsense went on for a few minutes, and eventually I demanded to speak with his manager. Same response, you connection without the VISA card number.
When I spoke with VISA they informed me they are getting hundreds of these calls from across Canada about this ILLEGAL billing. I did not have a contract with this company. I was NEVER made aware of their billing practices, and certainly do not want to be paying $200 for calls THAT NEVER WENT THROUGH. The person I was trying to reach had actually turned off their cell phone that day.
I shall contact VISA again (and they are getting hundreds of these calls!) and let them know the situation.

Overcharge
I was not able to use a phone card I had purchased to used in Mexico when I stayed at a time share in Nuevo Vallarta Mexico, so I used my Mastercard to make two phone class from the room, one for three minutes and the other for 30 seconds. The hotel would ot accept phone card numbers. I got charged $46.91 for the first call, and $41.91 for the second. When I called the company to complain, the agent said that the company charges a $25 "connection fee" plus $5 a minutes with a minimum of 5 minutes. The company said that the rates are explained when a person calls, but they were not explained. The company then refunded me $18 .76 and then promised to refund another $16 for the second call. Avoid International Satellite Communications at all costs!!!

CHARGES FOR CALLS NOT CONNECTED/OUTRAGES PRICING
I PHONED MY HUSBAND FROM COSTA RICA AND THE FIRST CALL HAD NO CONNECTION. THE SECOND CALL WAS BRIEF AND DID NOT EVEN LAST 3 MINUTES. WHEN I RETURNED FROM MY TRIP I FIND 2 CHARGES OF $41.92. WHEN I CALLED THE 800 NUMBER THAT WAS ASSOCIATED WITH THE CHARGES. I WAS GREETED BY A RUDE INDIVIDUAL WHO CALLED HIMSELF STEVE. HE EXPLAINED TO ME AS IF I WAS A 5 YEAR OLD THAT I WAS CHARGED THE MINIMUM CONNECTION CHARGE. I EXPLAINED TO HIM THAT I HAD NOT CONNECTED ON MY FIRST ATTEMPT. HE WAS ABLE TO SEE WHAT NUMBERS I CALLED AND WHAT DATE AND TIME. HOWEVER HE PUT ME ON HOLD SINCE I ASKED TO GET MY MONEY BACK. WE CONVENIENTLY GOT DISCONNECTED. I CALLED BACK AND ENCOUNTERED YET ANOTHER RUDE INDIVIDUAL BY THE NAME OF DAVID BROWN. HE AGAIN STATED THAT I HAD 2 OPTIONS EITHER GET CREDIT FOR $34 OR OPEN AN INVESTIGATION THAT WOULD TAKE AT LEAST 2 WEEKS. AT THAT POINT I WAS FUMING AT THE FACT THAT THEY CAN PULL ALL THE INFORMATION REGARDING THESE CALLS BUT THEY HAD TO OPEN A 2 WEEK LONG INVESTIGATION. WHEN ASKED TO SPEAK TO THE PERSON IN CHARGE HE REFUSED AND SAID HE WAS IT. WHAT KIND OF BUSINESS IS THIS AND WHY ARE THEY STILL ALLOWED TO RIP PEOPLE OFF LIKE THIS?

Unauthorized charges/exorbant charges
For all of you interested in the address of this company, it is:
511 E. San Ysidro Blvd.
Suite 1770
San Ysidro, CA 92173.
They are scam artists aand should be investigated by the better business bureau and the FBI for fraud and illegal/unauthorized charges to credit cards of pay-phone users.
They pick up your bill from the local companies that own your pay phones and charge you an exorbant fee on your credit card for making the call.
Their customer service claims that they are a collect call processing company, yet no operator comes online to help you with the collect call. No warning, notice, or labels are provided on any of these phones that highlight the charges associated with making a phone call. Meanwhile, they will charge you credit card with an outrageous amount ($46 for a 3 minutes) just for using the pay phone.
Their dispute office personel are well trained to act indifferent to any claims. The only way to deal with these scam artists is to have a federal agency investigate their illegal practices.

Exhorbitant charges for phone calls
Two one minute call from San Salvador to San Francisco cost me $ 41.91 each!
This was from a pay Phone acecepting credit cards on the airport. Talking to them didn't help because they said I had the option of not making the phone call!
The rates were not advertized anywhere, nor the fact that it is a satellite phone.

Exorbitant Cost
I recently make a credit card call from a Caribbean island back to the U.S. I learned later than these calls are handled by a third-rate company named International Satellite Communications, which charges exorbitant fees for their calls. A call that lasted less than one minute cost me almost $50. These guys are a bunch of crooks. I would strongly recommend saving yourself lots of money by using a pre-paid phone card instead.

Unauthorized Charges
I was travelling and needed to call my daughter to say good night each night, but didn't want the calls on my hotel bill as I was traveling for work. The hotel posted long distance charges in the in room directory, but the phone showed an option to place the call using your credit card which is what I did...not knowing the charges would differ. I made a total of 13 calls for a total of 36 minutes and my credit card was billed $384 dollars!!! That was more than my food for the 2 weeks I was gone.
I disputed the charges with the company, (International Satellite Communications), and after talking with 3 people was able to get the bill reduced by $170...I'm still not happy and intend to ask for rebate through the hotel for not posting charges. The company's reps must be very use to these complaints as when I spoke with my credit card company I was told that they deal with this company all the time and have difficutly disputing them as they are set up to protect themselves. Obviously their intent is ripping people off.
DON'T MAKE CALLS USING A LONG DISTANCE COMPANY!! I was out of the country and had just purchased a new phone -- which I had forgotten to set-up for international travel before I left...If you're ever in this situtation call from the hotel direct!
This company is a rip-off!!
