Summary
Incompetently installed roof. Numerous defects with installation. Corrupt business practices. Poor customer service. Unresponsive to resolve problems.
Detail
The roofing contractor replaced our flat roof in December, 2008. After heavy rains in April 2009, we had leaks into our house which destroyed the ceilings in a bathroom and bedroom. Carpet was also ruined in the bedroom and dining room. An expensive armoire was also damaged. Problems have persisted for the last year and a half.
After inspections and evaluations by inspectors and professionals, we were able to discover the extent of the incompetent workmanship … poor seams, improperly performed edgework, excessive pooling and poor drainage, poor sealing around vents, etc. Vents that he installed were simply placed on top of the roof and did not penetrate to allow venting. The roof has continuously leaked since this installation was performed. There has also been a strong musty smell in our house since his installation. Water had penetrated the roof and saturated the subroof, causing rotting and mold problems.
We had our roof replaced in May by a professional company and were then able to discover the extent of the poor workmanship. We also had to have our scuppers replaced due to the damage that he did to them. The work he did to them actually caused additional problems and negative water flow back into the house.
In summary, the roofing contractor displayed carelessness and incompetence in completing this job. We were also continuously lied to concerning what he would do and when he would do it. He never arrived when he said he would, he didn't complete the tasks that he said he would, and much of the workmanship was sloppy and substandard.
We are seeking compensation for the expenses for damages and corrective actions that we’ve incurred above the cost of the roof that this roofer installed. This includes internal and external damages. The total costs are approximately $30, 000.00.
