Attempted to use payphone near visitor center at Mammoth Cave National Park. Charged call to Mastercard. Call went through, wife could hear me, I could not hear her. She hung up. I called operator on same phone, she could hear me, I could not hear her. She made a statement along the lines of "no response on the line, operator terminating call".
Went into the Mammoth Cave Hotel, found another payphone, had all the same labels as the one outside. Call operator, a man asked what number I called. Next thing I hear is the phone ringing. Never spoke with wife. Call never went through. Still have a bill for 36.53 on the credit card.
