I purchased a custom hairpiece for $515 from Isthatawig.com on March 16. I received my hairpiece on April 9. The hairpiece was I received was not made to my specifications—it was too large and was not made in the style requested, so I decided to return the item. At the time I purchased the hairpiece I thought I was dealing with a company located in the United States. The website (which now seems to be offline) listed a US address and a toll free number for the US (1.877.370.2660). It was not until I received the package that I found that the hairpiece came from China, which is fine. I just assumed that it was shipped directly from the manufacturer. I was very unhappy with the hairpiece (below you’ll find pictures of what I ordered, and a picture of what I received) so I decided to return it for a full refund. It took me about a week of asking before they’d even issue a return authorization. That is when I found out I had to return the hairpiece back to China (I thought it would be going to their US address), so I sent it via Global Express through the United States Postal Service and FedEx. From the tracking details I found there was a clearance delay for about a week. I received an email from Isthatawig.com on May 20 stating that they’d have to pay $400 in taxes to customs in order to take possession of the returned item. So they asked to return the package to me and have me to resend it, listing a value of $10 on the package so they wouldn’t have to pay taxes. However, they refused to pay FedEx to return the package to me. Right now my hairpiece sits in a FedEx warehouse as an abandoned item and Isthatawig.com has my $515. They stopped replying to my emails a week ago. They are not based in the United States so I have no legal recourse. What a costly lesson learned.
