When my mother passed away on January 30th, 2011, Ivers and Alcorn Funeral Home picked her up from the hospital and took her to there Merced office. When we spoke on the phone regarding the cost of cremation I was told it woulf be over $1600. I explained that we did not have that kind of money, so Stan (The funeral Director) offered to do the price out of his Mariposa office. This brought the price down to $975.00. We where very thankful for his offerings.

The next day we went to sign the paperwork and pay the fee's. To our shock and disbelief, he ended up charges us $1975.69! When I spoke with Stan later, he told me very rudely that he had to charge us $505.00 extra for a peice of PLYWOOD to cremate my mother on because of her weight. Can you emagine paying $505.00 for a peice of plywood let alone being told your mother was to heavy set!!!

After viewing my mother, my neice had slammed her phone on the table in the waiting area. Stan had the nerve to call me the next morning to inform me that he WAS going to charge me $500 for damage to his table which there was none) but decided he would have his son-in-law refinish it for him. He then repeated again about my mothers size and how she would not be creamated until the Tuesday or Wednesday due to her size. Why he couldnt have just said they didnt have her scheduled until then is beyond me.

Today has now been 12days since her passing and she still has yet to be creamated and returned to her husband. I have called and found out that she is not scheduled for cremation until Sunday...which is exactly 2 weeks after her death. i also asked about her obituary in the newspaper and they told our local newspaper we did not want one. Then why did I give him all the information for it!!! I, again, called Stan and he appologized for the error and said it would be in this Saturdays paper.

So basically what i am saying is that Stan might have given us the Mariposa discount but ended up adding $1000.00 more to the UNITEMIZED bill. In the total is says $995.00 and on the back page in the corner of no where it says $1979.69. Then to have him talk about my mother in that manor was so disrespectful and uncalled for. And to have to wait to weeks for your loved ones remains is beyond wrong!

Disappointed and hurt!!!
