If a guy comes to your door from J&B Contracting - don't hire them
We purchased this house in June. It's old and in need of repair. Most of the work we do ourselves as we always have so this is my first experience with being taken.
Our front porch steps that are concrete fell apart in December. I found out the block steps did not have any support under them so I put some support behind them with some wood. Not the perfect fix but workable. A guy came to my door and said they were doing odd jobs in the neighbourhood and could fix my steps. For $450.00 he would put some cement behind them, level them and I would get a couple more years out of them. I spoke with my husband and we agreed he could fix the steps. I would keep an eye on them as I was home. I even made them coffee.
I was busy at our computer and since it was cold out, I did not stand outside to watch over them. About three quarters of the way through the job, I paid cash for the work. I turned around and they were gone. Job was crap... I phoned the number on the receipt and it was boggus. I admit, it's my fault for not doing my research, I should have checked them out more carefully.
So if J&B Contracting comes to your door, DON'T hire them.
