I got involved with J. B. Hunt's owner/operator program. Signed a contract with them to more or less "pay as you go" for a tractor. Recruiters and instructors guaranteed me I would be given enough driving miles to earn my truck payment and all overhead costs plus be able to make enough to put money in my pocket to survive until truck was paid for. They flat out lied to me. I drove for them for about 6 weeks and not once was I given enough miles to earn one red cent. I barely made enough to make my truck payment. I was feeding J. B. Hunt while my family and I were starving. And I'm not alone. Several other drivers have gone through the same experience. Hunt literally kept what little money I earned and let me have a small advance here and there, (2 or 3 times at maybe 100 or 200 dollars at a time). I eventually gave their truck back to them and to rub salt in my wounds, they declared to the IRS that the money THEY kept for truck payments was my income! So now I have to pay the IRS over 2500 dollars on wages I never received! What kind of reputable company would allow that to happen? I was ALWAYS available to drive but they would not give me the loads it took to earn a profit. I was not allowed to work outside of their system and haul my own loads with the lease purchase truck I was driving without breeching my contract. They lured me in with false promises and lies just as they have done to several other respectable drivers and are continuing to get away with it. I would NEVER recommend this so called "company" to another driver. They definitely are not on the up and up. How can they be allowed to continue to get away with fleecing people this way?
