Theft
Be careful about taking your taxes to the Jackson Hewitt booths set up in the Wal-mart stores!! We had a preparer at one location that took our taxes and filed them on her own system. When we called Jackson Hewitt they had no record of our information on file. The person that filed our taxes left and stole our money as well. We now have the IRS investigating where our money went. Seems that they just hire anyone off the street to do your taxes and when there is a problem you are on your own!!!

Scam
I have a ipower card and recently went online to pay for my daughters summer school. There card was declined for the first attempt because of a an address error. On my second attempt it went through. Upon checking my balance it was discoved that I had been double charged. Customer service at Jackson Hewitt are very rude and eager to point the finger at someone else:. From numerous blogs and consumer reports it has came to light that this kind of activity has been going on for years;. They can't tell me where my money is and will not return return it|. If you have one of these cards get all your money out close the account(they charge you a monthly fee even with a zero balance) and cut it up?. This card is a scam and the company is criminal;. A person should not be charged $2/.00 for every phone call to customer service to report an error or to try to recover thier own money, . Spread the word lets shut these crooks down!

Uninformed & over charged me!
They didn't tell me everything I needed to know about my return. And then when I called in to asked why I wasn't told this info- they simply told me it was fault for not knowing the right info. Since when am I suppose to know all the tax rules. Aren't they the 'professionals'? Thats a joke.
When I told them I wanted my money back the refused & said there was nothing they could do. I will never being going back to Jackson Hewitt they are a joke of a company & have a bunch of morons working for them.

Amendment Tax Return 2009
Many complaints about Jackson Hewitt tax services. J.H. is a big Rip off. They charge the one of the highest prices for about 20 to 30 minutes of sloppy tax service. Costumer relation is bogus as well. They try to convince you that your experience is Your Fault. That is bogus crap. I arrived to the appointment after working long 3rd shift over night work. So I was very, very tired and sleepy when I arrived at the appoint. I searched around and found other services for about $95 - $175 flat fee. Jackson Hewitt pulls you in with an ad of as low as $38 dollars. That is bogus. You get there and find out it will be considerably more especially if they learn that they did not do your taxes. So you get dinged and penalized because you did not file with them initially. That is TOTALLY BULLSHIT! They try to justify it by saying "... because we have to enter data into the form." Before they finish they still will have to enter data into a form. J. H. rips you off. Don't use THEM. You can do it yourself with the Tax software that comes out every year. You will be amazed at how accurate they are and are very fast and efficient. It will save you some money as well. Only use a tax service if you have a really complicated tax return.
When you are servicing your client, you do not talk to them with your back toward them and you certainly do not give the cost of service that way either. This is the ultimate of bad service. It says that we do not value your business, you are just another Sucker being gotten. And they took me for $288 for about 20 minutes of work of which a tax software made known to me that I may qualify for the tax deduction. So the software was really reliable. You would save a lot of money, keep more of your money instead of giving a good portion of they tax return that is rightfully yours.
Think self containing and do things for yourself like your tax return. If you have used a tax preparer in the pass then use that as a guide and get yourself the latest tax software and do it yourself. If you do use tax preparers use ones with a flat fee not these high price different fees for one service. Paying $500 to $1, 000 dollars or more is ridiculous if they are not getting you out of a serious tax jam, or doing a major tax over haul for a previous year or the current year. If you need that then you need a bona-fide CPA.
If you go to J.H. prepare to be handled, used, and taken advantage of. This is the first time that I ever used such a service and you better believe I will Never Use Jackson Hewitt and maybe no other tax service in the future. If I see a need only then will I consider using a tax service but with a flat rat for the tax year I need work on.
Sincerely,
Mad and Pissed Off Consumer

Cost me $1000.00
In Febuary of 2009 I went to Jackson Hewitt inside of walmart to have my taxes done. I was expecting to pay and when the preparer (Rosalyn German) said that i am getting a refund of 577.00.
Well that did not seem right as I did self employment work to the tune of $3400.00 She told me since i did not make over 3600.00 I would not have to claim that amount. I said okay, Cool.
Well here it is 2 years later and I am getting a freaking audit notice for 2009 because of Ms. German's Mistake I went to Jackson-Hewitt so they can fix their mistake. I first went to the walmart branch and talked to Yolanda that was there showed her my letter and she started making a bunch of faces and then refereed me to the district office.
I went to the office and talked to a Brenda there and she told me that i was screwed since i did not buy there Gold guarantee. I asked to speak to her manager and her manager Paul Come out. And he even agreed that it was there fault but would not take of their mistake. So I am out a $1039.00

Horrible customer service
My husband messed our taxes up last year so this year I figured we would bring them to a professional and the money we saved in the long run would be worth it. What a mistake! I initally asked for the price up front, but she never told me until the taxes were done 15 minutes later. She never filed any general sales tax and later told me that was only for big ticket items, she never asked abour employee expenses such as union dues, even though I am a teacher. She never asked about big purchases like the car I just bought during the tax year. When I finally talked to someone, after they were filed who actually did know what they were doing, they pointed out the countless mistakes. I took these back in to her and asked her to file an addendum. She kept refusing to do it for free and told me my car dealer should have told me about the tax savings from the car and she does not ask everyone if they bought a new car. She was rude and a money grubber and I DEFINITELY would not recommend ever going there!!!

Poor Training of Employees
Being that I have a college education in accounting, I thought it would be a good idea to take a part time job at Jackson Hewitt to get some experience working with taxes. Big mistake. I signed up for the class only to be told that there were not enough students to have a class so I would be taking classes ONLINE. That's right just me and a book to read and a test to take online. This is what Jackson Hewitt uses to train new employees.
Most of the information I learned in college and had no trouble passing the tests. The problem is that what the book says and what happens in reality are 2 different things. When it came to preparing taxes, I had only 3 hours of practice with the computer program that they use. And there is no grading system to determine if the "practice results" were done correctly. I felt very unprepared to assist anyone with their taxes.
There are some warning that customers need to know about Jackson Hewitt. First, the person preparing your taxes may not be trained properly or even qualified to do their own taxes let alone yours. Secondly, these people (tax preparers) are commonly paid minimum wage and work there for extra money. Third, you are not protected from fraud, lost refunds, stolen refunds or an audit even if you purchase the "Gold Guarantee". Every store is INDEPENDENTLY OWNED AND OPERATED. This means if you have issues or an audit, you may be on your own fixing it. You have to contact the owner of the franchise to have the gold guarantee claim filed for you. This is at their discretion as to whether it is filed or not. Finally, you need to be VERY vigilant with your money and your personal information. Jackson Hewitt is not required to a background check on their employees. You have no idea who you are giving your information to.
ASK LOTS OF QUESTIONS!! Think about the worse case scenario and ask the "what if" questions. Pay attention to what is going on during the tax preparation. Notice if the person makes a mark on each document they touch, or if they have a system of laying out the documents to ensure that everything you offer them is accounted for and has been inputted into the computer. Know your rights. Go to IRS.GOV and look up your taxpayer rights. Jackson Hewitt can not keep your tax documents FOR ANY REASON, unless you file with them; then they have to have copies. DO NOT SIGN anything until you read it. If you don't understand it, ask them to explain it. Most of all, rememeber if they screw up, YOU ARE HELD RESPONISBLE!!
Jackson Hewitt and H&R Block are scams in one way or another. Be ware and know your rights.

CHARGED ME OVER $500.00 for screwing my taxes up
I decided to go to Jackson Hewitt this year because H&R Block wasn't doing the rapid this year. Well, after the lady filled our 1040A form out she charged us over $500.00 in preparation and fees. Although we got a $1500.00 check the next day, it took us two weeks to get the rest of our Federal. And the state check is anyone's guess. The IRS states that they mailed it on 02/09/2011. Jackson Hewitt said we would pick it up at their office. No one has seen it since the ninth day of February. Can anyone tell me where my money is. Needless to say I will never use Jackson Hewitt again. And H&R Block, I am so sorry and if you'll have me back next year I'll see you all then.

Lack of training
I worked for Jackson Hewitt for one season as a tax preparer. The training consisted about 30 hours of classroom training doing returns by hand, we never saw a computer during the entire class nor had any explanation of how the software worked.
My first day in the office the manager stated you better start practicing doing returns on the computer and then she left. No instructions or guides on how to use the software. No state return software was loaded in the system for more than a week.
Because I was part-time I was not always present when a return was not accepted by the IRS and no one else in the office would touch it because we were paid a commission. Several of my customers applied for the RAL and had problems with their return not being accepted and all the office did was leave a note on my desk for me to find a few days later (I only worked two days a week). By the time I got the message the customer was steaming mad because the refund they paid hundreds of dollars for never arrived and no one would assist them.
I will never pay for tax preparation because they just hire people off the streets and give them minimal training.
