We hired Jacobson Realty as a realtor to help us find a one-year rental in Long Island. THAT THEY DID! They found us a property and after signing the lease and handing over the money we found out that they are the management company on the premises as well! WHICH IS ILLEGAL IN THE STATE OF NEW YORK to take a broker's fee commission and have a percentage monthly from the landlords to manage the property. But it gets better, after we moved in we also found out that the real estate which is the management company on the property as well is also the LANDLORD!
How does this all tie into our issue with the apartment and their service? On the day that we were suppose to move in, we called the Long Island Power Authority to come and activate our electric and gas. However, the electrician was not able to turn on the electricity because the breakers were turned on. Upon calling the realtor/management company/landlord we were told that we do not have access to the basement with the gas panels and electric breakers and we should AND I QUOTE "Call the Long Island Power Authority and wait for an electrician that is willing to break the rules" in other words GET ELECTROCUTED!
Only after this occurred did we find out that this organization of frauds actually rent out the basement with the buildings gas and electric panels to make extra money.
TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT: We cancelled the lease that night and demanded our money back, only to be told that they can cancel the lease and give us the first month's payment and the security deposit but they have to keep the broker's fee. FOR WHAT?
We promised to involve an attorney and finally they understood to return the broker's fee. The agreed upon date to meet and take out all of our belongings that we brought in was two days later. We waited for them two days later however they showed up late and the owner of the real estate/management company/landlord sent over ANOTHER agent because he was scared/embarrassed. We received the money and deposited it right away in our bank account.
7 days later, we found out that the check bounced and the realtor is now dealing with the bank's security and fraud team. I have also contacted an attorney to ensure that this company will no longer be licensed and that we receive our money back with the NSF fees.
However, since the money is not in our bank account, we are currently unable to rent another place since that was our money for renting, and i hope Alexander Jacobson the owner of this real estate is penalized to the greatest extent of the law for this.
