refusal to accept responsibility for damage
In July, Jenkins Brothers construction began removing tile from the lanai of the condo unit adjoining ours. Friends were staying in the condo at the time and stated the noise from the jackhammering was distressing and close to unbearable. It continued for three days. By the third day, about one fourth of the tiles on our lanai were were broken, lifted, buckled, or loose. We contacted the contractor as well as the owner with the damage report, thinking they would want to file a claim with their insurance or otherwise accept responsbility and make it right. They said the tiles were probably inproperly laid 14 years ago and offered to replace the damaged tiles with "something similar" as matching tiles are no longer available. We said that was unsatisfactory as the most evident pre-existing condition was that all the tiles matched and there was no evidence of any defect. They refused any further concession and in a phone conversation with the owner of the company, Dave Jenkins, on September 30, 2008 he indicated he was NOT responsible for any damage to our unit so TOO BAD! We have turned it over to our insurance company to deal with. We would like any prospective customers of this company to be advised of the lack of integrity this company exemplifies. With an economy in dire straits, it would be well for those who need the work to accept responsibility for their actions. This has created extremely bad feelings and a desire on our part to enlighten all prospective customers that choosing another contractor, when there are so many others who hold high standards, would be in their best interest.
