My internet service went out on Friday June 18, 2010. After talking with the Comcast tech people I was told it was my router that was causing the problem. I was also told that I could pick up a new router from Comcast for free if I leased one of their modems for $5.00 per month. Well I feel I am paying more than I should already for unbelievable poor internet service so I just went and bought a new router. The exact same conditions were present with the new router!!! my wireless computer would not load the internet. I could go to any public internet location like Starbucks and my computers worked fine. I was then told by Comcast it was my modem so I went and picked up a new modem from Comcast. The same problems still existed. I then looked over the internet and found a substantial number of problems and complaints with Comcast regarding router and modem compatibility issues so I went and got a Comcast router. It was the same make and model as the one I bought at Best Buy except it was black instead of white. All the problems disappeared but I now have between 1.5 and 3 mps. It appears that Comcast has changed their service and made private modems and routers unusable with their system and did not bother to inform anyone about the change. I now have spent money on a new router, new modem, two hours of IT time from a professional home service repair person and countless hours and frustration trying to get my service back. I signed up for Quest high speed service today and will dump Comcast as soon as it is up and running!
