One of my most terrible, unpleasant restaurant experiences thus far was at Jimmy the fish in Stellenbosch, Western Cape. I found two long, thick strands of hair lodged into the rice of my salmon rose. Upon politely asking the waitress to kindly take it away and bring the bill, I was accused by the manager of intentionally placing the hairs there as a cheap trick to receive a free meal! After reasoning with him for a while, he agreed to remove the salmon roses from the bill. When the new bill finally arrived, we noticed that nothing had been removed. Annoyed and in a hurry to get out of there, my friends paid the rest of the bill and we left. When we drove away, the entire staff came running after us, threatening to phone the police and demanding that we pay the full amount, which we reluctantly did. I have never been treated this badly in a restaurant, and will certainly never be returning - neither will anyone else we know!
