J.K.Harris sucks! They promise the moon and deliver nothing. I'm actually worse off now with IRS interest and penalties than I was before I contacted J.K.Harris. Stay away from them. They'll take your money and (after you've paid in full of course) shrug their shoulders and say sorry, the IRS says you've got to pay every dime.
When I signed up with J.K.Harris 4 years ago, I had an IRS debt of a little over $30, 000. They said they had 'experienced tax professionals' who would work with the IRS to reduce my debt to about $5, 000. Needless to say, I was elated and signed up to pay them $3, 600 over 12 months. During that year, I had to gather copies of all my financial information (bank statements, paystubs, previous tax returns, etc) and send them to J.K.Harris so they can forward them to the IRS (something I could have easily done myself) about every 3 months. During this time, the IRS sent notices to me asking for payment, notices of Intent to Levy my pay, etc. I was advised by J.K.Harris not to respond - they (J.K.Harris) are dealing with the IRS and any communication from me would 'complicate' matters. Every time I called J.K.Harris for an update, my case had been re-assigned to a new person who had no idea what was going on, but said she'd find out and call back (never ONCE was a call returned to me). Everyone I spoke with at J.K.Harris (and there were a LOT of different people I spoke with) had no accounting or IRS training or experience whatsoever. They're just a bunch of phone jockeys that do nothing buy stall your questions while they're waiting for your next payment. And then as soon as they're paid in full and can't suck any more money out of you, they tell you 'Hey, sorry. We tried. IRS says you've gotta pay. Nice knowing you.'
Any complaints are referred to J.K.Harris’ Oversight & Review Department. Their answer to shabby service and poor results is that they don't specifically promise to get any actual results (just that they'll 'try') so if they sit around answering phones and taking massages without really doing anything, they can't be blamed if anyone's stupid enough to trust them to help when the IRS is barking at their door (or placing a lien on what's left of their paycheck). They'll charge thousands of dollars to stall the IRS under the pretense of 'working' with them, and then step out of the way the moment your last check to J.K.Harris is cashed saying 'Gee, looks like you've got to pay the IRS every dime plus another year's worth of interest and penalties. Thanks for giving us a coupla thousand dollars.'
These people will make a bad situation worse and smile while they do it. If you have a problem with the IRS, call them and try to work it out directly. Or call a lawyer (if you trust one). Don't go near J.K.Harris.
