On Sat. 9/12 I hired guide Sam Jones-Jocassee Charters for a 4 hour morning trout fishing trip on lake Jocassee. Sam Jones was selected because of the 30 years experience and growing up in the area fishing lake Jocassee all of his life. Sat. 9/12 was predicted as an excellent day for fishing by all sources.
Unfortunately our fishing trip did not meet our expectations. The 1st thing i noticed was the unfriendly greeting as we boarded his boat. He never introduced himself to us. We had talked previously on the phone but a greeting is something one would expect. We fished not far from the boat dock for the full 4 hours. We fished the 1st spot for 2 hours without getting any strikes. We moved to a 2nd sopt where 1 fish was caught with 45 mins. left to our trip. Early on I had questioned using live bait. He replied the stores were not open this morning. Thsi was strange because most guides would have gotten the bait on the night before. Or start trips later after the stores were open. During the trip he mentioned riding up to 30 mins. to find fish but he dud not do that for us. Jocassee Charters advertises 30 years experience
with pictures of fish by groups of all ages on their website. Although no contract was signed one would expect to catch his limit. Other guides have promised and delivered. It is conceivable to not catch fish from time to time. Sam Jones made us feel like he didn't care if we caught fish or not. It didn't seem to bother him at all that we paid $275 for 1 fish. His non caring attitude and unfriendly mood during the trip make me wonder if we were welcome. I would like to make sure any fellow fisherman never make the mistake i did in choosing Jocassee Charters.
