Failure to adequate perform his duties
After attempting to pay a $75 traffic ticket on line without success, I then turned to the pay by phone system (though the city) and was met with a recording indicating the system would be down for three weeks. I e-mailed indy gov immediately and then submitted payment via check via US Post only to receive a notice requesting an additional $75. When I contacted the traffic court I was told by staff (Angie) that the phone system had been down and that the judge was well-aware of the situation. She suggested I complete a motion to set aside default judgment, which I did, and then hand-delivered to the court, including copies of my original e-mail and an explanation of the situation. After multiple attempts at getting through their joke of a phone system, I was told my request was denied. No other explanation. Pursuant to that, I wrote a letter to Judge Young and included all previous documentation, as well as a another check for $75 (bringing the total to $150). Two weeks later I rec'd my original letter, all original documentation I had submitted, as well as my $75 check with an unprofessional looking form letter with an x next to the statement "The Clerk's Office does not accept partial payments. The total owed judgment fees and cost for this case is: $105. And, in parenthesis was written $30.00 late fee. I've read over my original ticket and every piece of paper/correspondence rec'd and no where do I see a mention of a late fee. The fact I had to DOUBLE the cost of the ticket IS the late fee...is it not??? Just another example of our government hard at work screwing the little people.
