Over 2 months I have tried to get my contact prescription from Dr. Dean. It has been a long, frustrating process, which I will take part of the blame for, but the majority lies on the part of Kailua Eye Center. Its convenient location is what drew me to this location. I made my appointment, showed up early and filled out my paper work. I sat there for a normal amount of time before the receptionist escorted me to their examination room (in all actuality, it's an area portioned off by walls and no door). I could hear the doctor on the phone before he came in. The examination went normally for a couple minutes, then his phone went off. He didn't even bother to turn it off or put it on silent. It went off again, which he acted like he couldn't hear it, raising his voice above the ringtone from the theme song of The Sopranos. He stepped out of the room after dilating my eyes to make a phone call, making lunch plans, which is acceptable except I could hear not only him, but also the person on the other end. He seemed scattered, and while he was out I checked out all the certificates on the wall. First of all, a good doctor would only hang the best achievements on the wall, not some conference where he attained some certificate, but maybe I'm just picky.
After all of that was said and done, I was unhappy with the professionalism that was presented at my appointment, but I had my prescription. I called it in and was mailed my contacts. When they arrived, I put them in and instantly felt nauseous. I called them to let them know, which they told me I would need to come in for another appointment but they didn't have anything for another 2 weeks after the holiday season. They had told me it would be a ten minute appointment, fair enough I thought. After two reschedulings over a week and a half (both my fault from conflicts with work), I went to my appointment, where the dr. said, "I don't know what's wrong with your prescription. If you could have your old eye doctor give you the information of the old prescription, so I could compare the two". Really? What did I pay this guy for?
I still am extremely upset with the service I received there. One of the two receptionists were understanding, but one ignored me for 15 minutes before even acknowledging my existence. One even started to argue with me after I told her I didn't understand why I needed my old prescription for anyway. She started to get an attitude with me, telling me that I could just get my old prescription and they would script that out, to which I replied, then I why did I come here to get my eyes checked out to have you give me a prescription that was supposed to be updated? I went in one last time to talk to the receptionist and who was up with her, but none other than Dr. Dean. We got into a pretty decent argument. I stated my facts: why did he need my old prescription, I told him my dissatisfaction with his service from my first appointment, what if I had never had a prescription before? What would he do then? In the end, I told them I would bring them my old prescription and to have that scripted out for me.
Dr. Dean doesn't seem like he knows what he's doing. I don't know about the rest of you, but some of the worst (and depending on the situation) and scariest words that can come out of a doctor's mouth are "I don't know what's wrong". In this case, I warn everyone to save their money, time and sanity and go to a more professional optical shop where doctors are not only courteous, but can do their job right the first time (and without their cell phones ringing in the middle of your appointment).
