My boyfriend and I went in this past weekend to purchase some spring slacks and other men's accessories. The first time we stopped in, no one offered to help us, we had to ask associates first for help. Finally we got to the checkout line ready to purchase, and when the clerk swiped my boyfriend's checkcard, the credit card machine said it was an error reading the card. The clerk asked the clerk next to him to help, and she said the machine says "card error". Note, they never said the card was declined or anything, just card error, which could mean their machine wasn't picking up the batch. My boyfriend knew he had sufficient funds in his account, so we decided to go to the local ATM to get cash an dcome back. I asked the clerk if he could please hold our items for about an hour and we would be back. He said yes.
About 45 minutes later we return, but they apparently must have thought that we weren't coming back or just assumed we couldn't pay for the items, so they put the items back on the floor. When we approached the 2 clerks, they acted like they didn't care and did not try to help us find them. We then went to the manager and he and an associate tried to help us. We ended up spending another 45 minutes looking for the slacks, but could not find them, I guess someone ended up purchasing them while we were gone.
My point is that we did not appreciate the assumption that we would not be returning from some of the salespeople because of a card error. If the store does not hold items, that's fine, the clerk should have said so. Just common courtesy. Come to find out, there was no trouble using that card or using the atm to retrieve funds, I believe it was an issue with their machine.
Anyway because of that terrible treatment, that store lost 2 interested customers, I will NEVER go to that store again!
