Too many details to put down. Here is just a list of facts.
Received an older Pomeranian from Carol Keen. She told us the dog had no more eggs and she just wanted a good home for it. We took it and a month or so later it miscarried a pup. We called Carol about what to do, describing what happend and what we saw and she said no vet was needed. 3 days after the miscarry, the dog began bleeding heavier and died that day (day before Thanksgiving 2009).
Carol said she felt bad about us losing the dog (very sweet female) so she offered one of her other dogs to my husband for $250. She said she normally gets double that but would do that for us. We arranged for us to drive to her area to pick up a 3 month old male Great Pyreneese. I had to call and wait 1 - 2 days between responses in setting up this pick up, but it was December so I know people are busy.
We met to pick up the dog on Friday December 18. The dog was large (38 lbs) but then we knew the Pyrs were large dogs. As per contract specifications, my daughter (for whom the dog was purchased) took the dog to the vet. The vet said the dog was not a male. We hadn't looked to confirm gender due to the size of the dog and the dog was very subdued and shy.
When we called Carol to report the vets revelation to us, she was very nice and apologized saying she had just pulled the dog from the pasture that day, bathed it and brought it. She said it must have been from another litter she had, but that it was 6 months old and not 3 months old as well. The 6 month old was very shy and didn't want to stay in the house at all, which is what we were wanting. I guess she was just too used to the outside.
We said we wanted a younger male and she said she had a litter that would be 6 weeks old on Dec. 24 and we could have one of those males. She said she normally didn't let a pup go before 8 weeks but she would in this situation. We arranged to meet on Dec 22, but she would call us that day to confirm.
I didn't hear from Carol that Dec. 22 morning so I called her. I left her a message that I just needed to know if we were still on for pick up (this time she was bringing the pup to our area). I didn't get a response from that call, additional calls or text messages until late that afternoon. (And this was typical of each time we called her.) She explained that she had been to the vet for the puppies vaccination and was coming.
We met at about 7:00 pm or so, exchanged puppies, signing new contract. We asked about possibility of getting the puppy registered, but she said at that low price, it didn't come with papers.
Dec. 23, being busy, we didn't go to the vet. But we made plans to do so on the second business day (as per contract requirement) December 28. But on Sunday night, Dec. 27th, the puppy started vomiting. First thing Monday morning we took him into the vet and he was diagnosed with parvo. We left the puppy to the vets care and called Carol. The vet said she need to know for the other dogs.
Carol was adamant that we were responsible, and that the dog had left her healthy. She had given us a reciept to show that her vet had vaccinated the puppy for parvo, but not that the dog h ad been tested. She refused to accept any responsibility. She did say that we should have our vet call her vet to confirm the puppy's illness, but that she knew she had given us a healthy pup. She said she would take the rest of her puppies to the vet but if they didn't have it then our puppy couldn't have it. She said it is impossible for one litter mate to get it alone.
In subsequent phone/email contacts she made statements about us "letting Scuddles (the first dog, Pomeranian) die" and not taking it to the vet and how much that bothered her. I explained that we called her and asked her what we needed to do. We are not breeders and had no idea what was needed and when she said, no, it wasn't necessary if what we were discribing was what was happening we took her advice.
This puppy did, thank God, survive and is back home with us. Very sweet, good natured and we love him. Named him Charlie. We are now in the stage of waiting for our vet to contact her vet and give her vet the proof of hospitalization (7 days) and treatment. We had asked for help with this from Carol. She refused. We didn't ask for it without being willing to provide her with proof, but she wouldn't even consider, kept saying it wasn't her fault.
Yesterday my husband called her and, thinking it might be a financial issue, asked her if she would consider giving us the registration papers since what we paid her for the dog ($250) and what we had just paid out in vet bills ($470) more than equaled the price she had named at the beginning of the ealings. Now she are has accused us of trying to scam her for the papers.
We are waiting on our vet to call her vet. She said she would not deal with my husband nor I, only my daughter since she was the signer on the contract. But my daughter has given my husband power of attorney for this situation.
I will not respond to any any comments about this complaint. I am not here to bad mouth and tell you what I think. These are facts I have proof to support. Make your own decision.
