I went online to check my email. There was what appeared to be spam from KeyVoiceMail instructing me on the use of my " pin number" and referencing a receipt for an order to my home phone in the amount of 14.95. I did not see anywhere that said email was a solicitaion so I called the company to find out what order and charges they were refering to.
Reportedly my email address, home ph and home address had been supplied to this company and a purchase of voice enhanced services was made, that would include a monthy fee, all billed to my home phone. The guy I spoke with said I had placed this order earlier in the morning (while I was sleeping) and my home phone number had been billed through my phone company. Now I am to be patient that it could take up to 3 billing cycles to get a credit on some order I never made, all based on public information!
I told this guy that I couldn't believe his company was so irresponsible as to not have confirmed the order FIRST, before sending through pin numbers, etc, and billing. Then there was the issue that I could have my phone number billed, no credit card or any proof of identity was necessary for a bill to be generated on my home phone. A responsible company would have preceded finallizing an order with a confirmation email needing to be responded to and the " order" would not have been placed without it.
I followed immediately with a call to my phone provider, who advised me this company has been the focus of many billing disputes, especially recently, and a block by the phone company can be put in place for recurrent charges, but not until the first bill comes through! Now I have to wait for the charge to show on the home phone bill and call the phone company back to set up the block.
Check your phone bills, as I am one of the lucky ones in that my spam filter did not recognize the email from Key Voice as spam, otherwise I would not have caught the billing so quickly.
