Sharon Summerlin contacted our local TDC office to offer to its members a media kit that claims to produce a program for 4th & 5th graders who go on vacation and right a report about thier experience. We expressed an interest in the program and Sharon Summerlin contacted me on Feb 4, 2008 with a media kit outlining the program and quoted a price of $150. The $150 was supposed to help build a sponsorship program to help pay for books, prizes, and print costs for the book. We were supposed to be provided with 100-200 guest during April 18-20, 2008, listed on her website with full editorial, and ad space in the book. On Feb 14, 2008 our credit card was charged $250 (not the $150) and none of the above services were performed. Since this time all of the phone numbers and fax numbers associated with this business have been disconnected. Her website remains operational but during my research I learned she illegally used copyrighted images. I have sent several requests to Sharon via email on 3/5/08 (when I learned of the difference in the charged amount), 5/14/08 (after the date of services were promised), 6/4/08, & 6/11/08 and have not received a response as of today.
I decided to contact other local TDCs, CVBs, and State Tourist Offices and learned that she has scammed at least 20 other businesses in the same fashion.
On 6/20/08 she published employment ads throughout the nation on craigslist and oodle for a Regional Manager. Several of her employees have filed claims because they never received the pay or commissions they were promised.
