Upset with Kitchen Aid

Stand Mixers
We owned a regular Kitchen Aid stand mixer for 13 years and LOVED it, but when we decided to upgrade to a heavy duty lift-stand mixer we were in for a very big disappointment! Regretably, we gave away the first mixer and theirs is working better than our new one! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THESE 'HEAVY DUTY MIXERS' TO ANYONE who likes to cook using whole wheat. They can't handle double batches of 100% whole wheat bread. They can't handle the food grinder attachment for grinding wheat sprouts, or making whole wheat pasta. At first it handles dough beautifully, but the gears start 'popping' after a year or so, and by then your warranty is expired. Having used a smaller Kitchen Aid mixer for 13 years, I did not worry about changing my dough recipes. I didn't see in their instructions that I could not use 100% whole wheat until it was too late. It's very discouraging to spend $400 for a mixer that can't do any more than the smaller, less expensive, models. These are NOT heavy duty mixers. You have to 'baby' them more than the smaller mixers. BEWARE wheat-savvy-cooks...This is NOT the appliance for you. The repair center says it will be a minimum of $75 or so to fix our gears. PLUS, I can no longer make whole wheat bread (I must use white flour too), and I no longer dare use the food grinder attachment (which was $75!) because I don't want to go through this repair again!

Kitchen Aid Bites!

Kitchen A.I.D. (appliance is defective)
We purchased a new house in 2004 that was outfitted with brand new Kitchen Aid appliances. Fortunately, we purchased the extended warrantee for all. We have had nothing but problems with ALL of the appliances--electric cooktop, overhead microwave, dishwasher and the dreaded side by side re-defrigerator/re-defreezer which is the chief cause of this complaint. The cooktop and the microwave have both required parts not covered under warrantee more than once. The dishwasher was non-operational from the start and had to be replaced after some wrangling with the service provider. The side by side fridge freezer takes the prize, though, for worst appliance. Little did we know that it's stainless steel exterior with Kitchen Aid tag was covering a relic from the Soviet Union. The ice maker has never worked properly. Over the course of our 5 year extended warrantee, we had a service rep out multiple times with multiple "fixes", and even after the whole ice maker was replaced with a new unit, it failed to work properly. The temperature in the fridge is not moderated properly and can freeze with no manual change to the temperature setting. Now, we are faced with paying for a new compressor. No doubt, this component was engineered to last just over 5 years. If so, then it would be the only properly engineered part of the appliance. Kitchen Aid/Whirlpool, shame on you. This is not your parent's trusted appliance maker.

STAND MIXER
MY ARTISAN MIXER LITERALLY EXPLODED OUT THE BOTTOM WHEN I WAS MIXING EGG WHITES-FIRE AND SPARKS EVERYWHERE!
IT WAS JUST OVER ONE YEAR OLD. IT COST ME $96. TO FIX.
I WROTE A LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT OF WHIRLPOOL NORTH AMERICA, MICHAEL A. TODMAN AND TO THE GENERAL MANAGER OF WHIRLPOOL CANADA, ELI FEDERMAN.
GUESS WHAT FOLKS, NOT A WORD FROM ANYONE IN 5 MONTHS.
I' M NOT SURPRISED. I WAS WARNED BY THE REPAIR SHOP OF THEIR ATTITUDE.
MY MIXER IS FOR SALE. I WON'T HAVE ANOTHER WHIRLPOOL PRODUCT IN MY HOME, EVER AGAIN.

Bad Quality
We purchase a KitchenAid wall over ($2, 000), used the self cleaning feature for the the first time just out of the 1 year warranty period and the glass exploded. Whirlpool wouldn't stand behind their product and now we have a $400 repair. Don't trust this brand - KitchenAid sucks!!!

Fridge alarm won't shut off
we bought a brand new Kitchen Aid refrigerator and had it installed on June 1, 2008. 10 days ago, the alarm which alerts us when the temp deviates from the normal setting. A rep came out a day later and said the main board needed to be replaced. It would take a week to get in. We scheduled an appointment for today. We went out of town to return to a fridge whose alarm goes off every 5 seconds. We've tried everything to get the alarm off including turning off the fuse. Nothing works.
Now I'm told that it will be another 2 days to get the part. Meanwhile, we have to live with the constant sound of the alarm, every 5 seconds. It is clearly a defective item. I've talked with Kitchen Aid & they don't care at all about this situation. The item is clearly defective. Both techs were completely perplexed by this issue.
Bottom line-STAY AWAY FROM KITCHEN AID PRODUCTS

Cheaply made appliances
I have an over the range microwave. It is also the vent for my range top. The stainless steel vent cover that runs the entire lenght of the top of the unit has fallen off. The vent cover served to direct the air flow from the vent in an upward motion. Not to mention covers the huge hole over the top of the microwave unit! It has always been loose on one corner. I have had it 3 years and never really investigated why it was wobbly. Occasionally I would wipe it clean and this was the only time it was touched. Over time it became more and more loose until it started rubbing the microwave door when it opened and closed. Then shortly after the entire cover just fell off. Now I have a huge hole over my microwave that blows the vented air from my range directly onto the top of my head. What is worse is when I looked at why. My expensive brand Kitchenaid stainless steel unit is nothing more than plastic! The three structures that was holding that piece in place were noting more than thin plastic holes with metal screws pushed through. The plastic was broke into pieces. I am very disturbed! I felt I was purchasing a quality high end appliance to find it is cheap plastic. I suppose I paid extra for the brand name? Now my warranty company says it is not covered because it is only cosmetic! I guess it's okay to have a bacon smelling wind blown hair-do look every morning after I cook breakfast? I am very upset but so far no one cares and no one will do anything about it. Bad appliance. Shoddy workmanship Kitchenaid! Sorry warranty company. But who cares, right?

Repair or replacement!
I really wish I would have seen this site years ago. My husband & I purchased our appliances April 2007 from the Bad Boy store in Whitby. These included a side by side fridge, a gas stove, a dishwasher and an over the range microwave. It took us until last week to have the microwave replaced seeing that the original one had a fan with a burnt motor from the time of purchase. Over the past year we have made at least 2 dozen phone calls to the manager, customer service, the service dept, the repair shop that was supposed to fix the problem, and to Whirlpool( Kitchen Aid). We were constantly given the run around and I lost track as to how many times the buck was past to someone else. For a business who uses the logo "Nooobody Does it Better". This is false advertising cause everyone else seems to do it better. I can't believe that it took us 2 week short of an entire year to replace something that was sold to us in a defective state. Please, I beg of you, if you want good service and quality shop elsewhere.

dishwasher
We've had this dishwasher and have been using it since summer of '03. It is a stainless inside and out, with the hidden controls. It's either top of the line kitchen aid or just below, either way we spent a lot of money and this is what we got.
1- Does not wash dishes well. The dishes have to practically be clean before we put them into the dishwasher. My husband calls it the sanitizer.
2- We've had two different sets of dishes now and have experienced a hard time fitting the dishes in the dishwasher well. Yes, the top shelf is adjustable, but that does not make a difference. We especially have had a hard time with bowls and stem ware.
3- We have been through 3 pumps and motors. They have broken each year/year and a half since we installed and started use. Mind you, there have only been three of us in our family till just recently and my husband is gone quite a bit. So, it's not like it gets the same usage as say, a five person family with older children.
4- Kitchen aid customer service is poor. They could give us no reason for the repetitive breaks and clearly seemed not to care much. I asked them what they would do should this pump and motor break again, since they are no longer under warranty. They said, nothing, unless I purchased a new warranty. Obviously Kitchen aid is more concerned about making money than making products that last and keeping customers.
If we purchase a new dishwasher soon, I will not buy another Kitchen aid. Actually, I'm so disappointed I won't purchase any Kitchen aid products.

UNAVAILABILITY TO RECEIVE PARTS TO REPAIR MY KITCHEN AID BUILT IN OVENS
On 3/24/08 a service repair person determined that the Kitchen Aid wall ovens were in need of parts including a control panel to make the ovens operational. He entered the information into his computer with the serial numbers for each part. He told me that it would take 7-=10 days for the part to be delivered to my home and he proceeded to make an appointment to return on 4/4/08. I received a call from A&E asking if I had received the part yet and I responded no so that person said that she had to cancel the appointment and then she told me that the part was on back order and would not be shipped before 4/25/08. This is totally unacceptable as I do not have a working oven which I need especially that the holiday of Passover begins on April 1 9th and I must cook for my family and guests. This is a most important religious holiday for a Jewish family. n
I have spoken to A&E, Kitchen Aid and the warranty company and they all tell me the same story which again is unacceptable. In an era of computers and immediate communication why did A&E wait nine days to inform me that the order is back ordered? Kitchen Aid tells me that the part is being manufactured and that they wait until they have sufficient amount of a particular part and then they will fill an order. They also tell me that if my ovens were under warrantee, not under an extended service contract that I would be able to receive the part sooner. What kind of a business is everyone running. What it a consumer to do and what recourse can be taken. I refuse the just take the answers that have been given to me and I hope that I receive a response from you by return e-mail or in writing. The parts that need to be delivered are as follows:
Thrmst-fix 22 664 4452223 1
Fuse thrml 22 664 4456654 2
Trim-oven 22 664 4448478 1
Sub Panl-cont 22 664 8300375 1
Please look into this matter and inform me that you will be able to expedite this matter.
Sincerely,
Irwin M. Bressler

poor service
I called the above warranty company for service on a three year old Kitchen aid Dishwasher that was leaking onto my wood floor. The service man came out the first time and said I needed a new gasket. He came back with the gasket and installed it. He said I needed to keep a dishtowel shimmeyed in the door to keep it from popping open till the gasket adjusted to the the door. The door kept opening and the cycle not complete. I called him back. He said. He really did not know how to fix this and it was an ongoing problem with the KitchenAid dishwasher. Said I shaould keep a towel on the floor by the leak and a small bowl till he could figure something out. He was not too reassuring. I have not heard from him since he was here. The warranty company would not allow me to use any other service company. I called the store where I purchased the dishwasher. I was told this was unheard of. They suggested I call the service company Premier that specializes in Kitchen Aid. This will be my expense unless I can get Maytag to bend. This warranty company is neither dependable. My warranty is usless. Pplease assist any way possible.
