Birthday cake made a week early and still given to customer a week later
On 7/9/10 I went to knodel's to order my daughters birthday cake> I'd been a customer of Knodel's for about 14 years. Every birthday cake that my daughter had received had come from Knodel's. I oreded a cake for Saturday, 7/24/10, which was the day of my daughters birthday. The cake that she picked out had an ipod on it. She specifically stated to the guy that took the order that she did not want the ipod on it because it was to big and bulky. But I believe that cake and id for that cake was "Ipod cake". He asked when would the Ineed to pick it up I told him Saturday the 24th. I made a partial payment and the remainder was due at the time of pickup.I received a phone call on Sunday July 18th telling me that I failed to pick up my cake the day before. I told the lady that called that they must had made a mistake and that it was suppose to be ready next saturday the 24. The sales lady that I spoke with said "again" as if this was a repeat of a common problem. Then she replied well this wont be a problem we will just make you a fresh one for pick up on the 24th. She then asked me to go through the order with her to make sure everything was ok. Everything was fine except they had put an ipod on the cake which was we had specified to omit it. She confirmed the order once again and said the new cake would be ready on the 24 without an ipod. On 7/24/2010, I arrived to pick up the cake, it was ready and waiting on me. Everything looked fine. After cutting into the cake we realized that the cake was stale. My daughter then noticed that the cake still had the headphones on it from the ipod that they removed and resmoothed new icing in its place. There was a large square with a different color of chocolate in its place. I immediately called the store and asked to speak to the manager/owner. Some guy said he was the manager only until I explained what happened then he said he was not the manager and that the person I needed to speak to would be there tomorrow. He instructed me to bring the cake back so that they could see it. On Sunday 7/25/10, I took the cake back to the store and asked for the manager/owner. A young lady marleen came out and said how can I help you. I explained to her what happened. She then told me yeah it does look like it was removed but i cant say what happened on the phone with you and whomever you spoke with as to if they wre going to make you another fresh cake. So at this point all I can do is make you another cake or give you your money back. Just to mention this was the day after my daughters birthday. Technically she didn't have a cake for her birthday. I told her to just give me my money back and I would take care of the matter in another way. She asked me for my foodstamp card so that she could put the money back on my card. I told her that I do not have a foodstamp card and hat I paid cash for the cake. The payment type indicated on my receipt was foodstamp (ebtcard). Eventually she gave me my money back.
