I should have known better
May 30, 2009
2007 Chevy Cobalt
2 months 5 days ago. I purchased an 07 Chevy Cobalt. I got a great, no excellent deal on it inspite of my credit. That should have been clue #1. I bragged to family and friends about the deal and tried to refer some people. I got some positive responses and some "I think I'll wait a couple of months to see what happens to your car before I check them out" type of responses. That should have been clue#2. Anyway, everything was fine, no complaints until Memorial Day when I heard some grumbling. There were no warning lights and no manual came with the car, so I didn't suspect anything. Rainy Tuesday, I turned on the defogger and got cold air. A warning light came on and that grumbling sound continued, sounded like it wanted to cut off. Wednesay morning, I dropped the car off at Koons service dept before they opened. Later that afternoon, I called to get a status report. The first thing the mechanic asked me was if I had an extended warranty (my 30 day warranty expired). I almost fell out of my chair at work. He told me he had to wait until Thursday morning for an estimate. Thursday I received the call with the $1200.00 plus estimate because the radiator was leaking and needed to be replaced and something about the air condition unit. I'm no auto mechanic, but that radiator didn't just need to be replaced. Something was wrong with that thing 2 months ago. Somebody duct taped it or something and put it out on the lot for people with bad credit who have to take what they can get. I guess Monday I will have to call and see if they take installments. My car should be ready by then. They had do order parts. As the saying goes, if it is too good to be true--it probably is.
