I have met a guy by the name of John O'Brien online and he claimed to be a US Army Solider working in Iraq. He is supposed to have finished his army contract In Iraq and is supposed to meet me in Singapore on 28 February 2011. He is supposed to fly by military flight and supposed to land on Singapore. However, 2 hours before his arrival, I have received a call from a Malaysian mobile no. +60 16 298 0581 from a lady name, Jasmine Henry/Jasmin Bt Abudllah. She claimed to be a immigration officer at the KLIA and said that Mr O'Brien has been detained because of non-declaration for his luggage. She wanted me to pay a sum of USD$2500 so that she can release him. Initially, I believe her as I do have feelings for this online man. However, I do not have that kind of money to send over. So I chatted with her and also Mr O'Brien (whom I have never spoken to on phone). She informed me that the original fine is USD$7500 and Mr O'Brien has already paid USD$5000 hence the balance of USD$2500 by me. She offered to take only USD$1000 so that she can release him. I transferred the money to her as I truly believe, thankfully, the name she given me was incorrect initially. After a night, I re-think and research on internet where I see this complaint here and also on other sites about some immigration scam. I managed to retreive back the money before they could pick up so thankfully for me.
I want to urge all of you who uses online dating like myself to be more careful. And do take note of this scam.
