Where do i start?
I took my car in last week for a full service & aircon recharge. I was also asked for any other areas that i would like them to look at whilst in the garage. I named the windscreen wipers as not turning off and requested this be checked.
The service was done, i was told by phone that the brake pads and discs would need to be replaced as they were "on the limit". I decided against doing this on the same day as i had only just had my MOT and this had not been picked up during this so wanted to double check.
My Dad picked up the car, and written on the receipt i have been told that the brake pads, discs AND drums needed doing. I was told the windscreen wipers were working fine (they are not - they still do not turn off in position and stop halfway across the windscreen). The aircon was not able to be done and i was given a refund after i had to contact head office.
I have also discovered that the staff had not secured my wheel trims, unfortunately this was only discovered after 3 of them had already been lost!!! They HAD been secured with a wheel trim security kit, If the people that worked on the car were not able to resecure them, i would expect for them to be removed or for us to be told that they were not secure so i dont end up where i am now with no wheel trims and having to replace these because of the staffs ineptitude/laziness.
I should also mention that i have also had someone check the brakes and am told that the brake pads are virtually near new. Relieved i did not pay for the extra work to be done now that i am aware that it is absolutely not neccessary.

Do not use Kwick Fit

Poor Work
I bought a tyre at cost of £200 from Kwik Fit only 4 weeks ago. After a recent Audi inspection service it was noted that my new tyre had a buldge and was damaged due to over inflation by 20psi. I returned to Kwik Fit only to be told I would have to pay £200 for a new one even though the damaged was because they inflated the tyre to over 50psi. My advice is to use fully qualified garages not Kwik Fit who cant even inflate a tyre!

Wages
I'm actually an employee for this company, i have been with kwik fit for 3 years now and im 23. I know all the tactics they use to make money for the company but would not expose due to job security. I started off as a tyre fitter with the company and my wages started at 12, 000 per annum taking home just under 900 a month after tax. Kwikfit sends employees on courses to be qualified to do other jobs as well as getting in centre trainers to train us in centre. Now im qualified to work on exhausts, batteries, re-gas aircon systems, glass chip repairs, brakes, suspension and steering. now i take home just under 1000 a month which works to be under 13, 000 per annum, which i believe is slavery! yes kwikfit underpays their staff while the big boss we work for gets paid 10x the amount. The managers get paid well but can earn big bonuses if they hit their targets for the month. As a fitter i can say that we are the only people in the company who works hard for peanuts. So don't give grief to the fitters, managers and bosses up top are the ones who needs the earaches and the stress!

Brake Inspection
The front brakes on my car were whistling when braking and I booked a free brake inspection with Kwik Fit, who after several hours checked the brakes and advised that I must have them replaced and gave me a quote for £175. I said the price was too high and asked for the brakes to be put back on. When driving out I noticed a grinding noise, the next garage said one of the brake pads was missing and the brakes or disks did not replacing. By then I had already purchased the brakes and discs. The service is very poor!

Air Conditioning Service
I had an AC Service costing £49 at my local branch in Glenrothes on July 1st, the day before I went on holiday. They said they would check for leaks, then fill the system and give me a print out of the results and if not less than 10% of the outside ambient temperature, it would be free.
After 40 minutes they said it was ready and I paid and asked for the print out, and they replied that the printer was broken but it was working perfectly. It did seem slightly cooler than it had been before but the next day driving south on holiday it had no effect of cooling the car whatsoever.
This leads me to believe that the system has some sort of leak which wasn’t noticed although was tested for.

Stay away
Took my car to kwik fit for mot and service, all passed and nothing flagged up on service (documents saved). next day smoke started coming through vents. called kwik fit who advised that its nothing that they have done.Took car to local dealership who advised that the cam cover is cracked where the air filter house is.Spoke to kwik fit who advised that they would not touch air filter on service?? I questioned this and they still advised of above. I have been charged for air filter on service, they also advised that oil leak was detected on service? nothing states this on service report. (documents saved). Local dealership charged me £800.00 for new cam cover. This complaint is being dealt with by Consumer direct.

Ripping people off
I had my cars MOT done at Kwik Fit last week and it failed. First of all they charge you only £35.00 for the test but they do make their money back some how and trust me, you will be better of taking it to your local garage and pay £50.00, it will actually save you money. Before I took it in I checked all the normal things that they might find wrong on the car and one was too see if the head lamps lined up. They did but surprise surprise, when they tested the car, it failed on that and then they charge you £12.00 to adjust that. So they just made up the money they lost for giving you a cheap MOT service. Now £12.00 for turning a little screw is alot of money, I wish I was on that wage. Then the car also failed on the ball joint and arm. They said oh they can do it but I need to replace the whole arm and ball joint and it will cost £200.00, when shall they book it in for? I said ill ring them back. Took the car to the local mechanic and he said, oh no you only need a ball joint, costing £12.00 and a cv boot, about £9.00. All in he charged me £75.00 for doing the job and it didnt even took him an hour. I then filed a complaint with Kwik Fit, and this ignorant bloke calls you up and say, well if you are not happy with the service, take it up with Vosa. They know well you cannot proove them wrong. They also charge you £18.00 for the retest after you got what was wrong fixed. So beware, doing a Kwik Fit £35.00 MOT is going to cost you alot more than if you took it to your local mechanic to do for £50.00. My MOT without the change of the ball joint and cv boot cost me almost £70.00 from them. Trust me, they WILL make the money back plus MUCH more.

Beware Kwik Fit
I visited a Kwik-Fit garage (on Balham High Road) to have the coolant level topped up and my tires filled with air.
I am heavily pregnant, and have a 3 year old child, and told the mechanic I was making a long journey that day. Shortly thereafter I was told that 3 of my tyres needed replacing due to 1 having a slice in the side wall and 2 others having low tread depth. For this I was charged £500.00 (down from an initial quote of £550). The mechanic was adamant that there was no choice as the tires were not safe.
I was shocked at both the cost and the fact that the tyres were apparently not fit for purpose. I have since done the following:
• As the car had a full MOT just over 2 weeks earlier. I have since contacted the MOT centre and they confirm that the tyres were completely safe and had more than an estimated years additional wear left in them; and
• The cost of Vauxhall Vectra tyres should be closer to £70 each not £180 each. This price has been confirmed by 2 additional garages.
I had no idea Kwik Fit were up-sellers and assumed their employees were professionals as they are such a large company.
