Lack of customer service
I live in the Caribbean and purchased a La Cornue oven from France in 1995. It was built for propane gas, no electric ignition because I wanted to keep things simple knowing there was no one to service the oven here. I have had continual problems with the pilot lights(there are 2). They keep going out when I am not using the oven and when I turn the oven on, it might stay lit for a while but then the pilot and gas go out. AFter this happens it is impossible to relight the pilot again until the oven is completely cold. Over the years I have replaced the thermocoupler, the thermostat but nothing stops this from happening. No one knows why this is happening as I have had many technicians to work on the oven over the years but the problem still exists. Trying to get help from La Cornue is beyond impossible. No one in the US can help me because I have an oven that came from France and not US certified, whatever that means. I have suggested tearing everything out and replacing the insides with something more up to date but I am told that is impossible. If you call the 800 number for a so called technician, you wait 45 minutes and still no one picks up. I have tried to get help by email from a technician, but they don't reply to my questions, just want to replace parts and don't offer any reasons why this may be happening. I am totally digusted after spending 17, 000.00 on this oven, and no one at La Cornue can offer any real solutions. Their website offers pretty pictures but no one to contact for after purchase service for outside the US customers. I have asked them for a phone number so I can speak to them, but they ignore my request. The other day someone sent me an email telling me that to replace the pilot assembly was 11, euros, the thermocoupler would be 6 euros and the shipping would be 115.00. Why can't I get these simple parts from a La Cornue repairman in the US for a fraction of the shipping costs. I have asked for a repair manual and I am told that there isn't one. Can you imagine how I feel with Christmas coming, and no oven and no sign of any help to come in the future.
