Rude Training Manager
Stay away from this gyms training program. The trainers are under paid, even though you pay a heck of alot for training.
The Training Manager will lie to you, train you for the first 3 days to keep you from cancelling your training package.
The TM is not a certified trainer he will tell you he is but he is NOT!!! He will hurt you due to his lack of training as a trainer then tell you this is why you need a trainer.
He is rude, sexually harrasses women clients and will not deal with any customer service issues.
Sad really because the gym itself is a nice clean gym with up todate equipment.

HORRIBLE Customer Service
I've been a member with LA Fitness shortly after the doors opened in their Mill Creek, WA (approximately 3 years) location and started attending the Everett, WA location the same day the doors opened. My wife decided she wanted to join under my account, so she went in to inquire about it. There was a promotion going on that wasn't supposed to end for a few days, so she decided to join based on that promo. Well, after all her info was input into their system, the rep tells her that the system was allowing the code to go through, so she wouldn't be able to benefit from that promo. She decided to put it on hold and discuss it with me. I called the gym to inquire about it and they said that no one was available at the time and Harald would call me back. Well, Harald never called back (even after multiple calls to the gym for him), so I called again and asked for the manager. Surprising, Harald now became available since I was escalating to a manager. So after the phone conversation not going anywhere, we decided to go in and speak with Harald. He said basically the same thing the other rep said, so we finally decided on a membership that sort of worked. I really do felt that they were just trying to lure customers in with the promo and not honor it. If the system wasn't honoring the code at that time, then they should have applied it once they figured it out on their end. The manager Matthew never called back either (after leaving him a few voicemails).
After some time, my wife began traveling often, so we felt the membership wasn't needed. I called in to the local gym to cancel (because they have it designed where a customer can't cancel online, over the phone, or call into membership services to do it). After speaking with Mike, he said that I would have to physically come into the gym and fill out a cancelation form. I asked him if it could be faxed to me and I fax it back in...his reply was no, you have to physically come into the gym to do it. I told him that it sounded like LA Fitness wants customers to come into the gym so they can try and bargain about the cancellation and possibly more high pressured sales tactics. Mike's reply was "Are you kidding me, do you think we're going to high pressure you over a $29 membership, come on now" (and that's word-for-word). I immediately asked for a manager because Mike obviously thought he was talking to one of his boys on the block! Well, Harald gets on the phone and poses as the manager. I specifically asked Harald if he was the manager (I already knew he wasn't and that Matthew was) and his reply was yeah, sort of. I immediately asked him for corporate's number because I didn't appreciate asking for the gym manager and getting one of Mike's peers to pose as the manager. Harald's reply was that there wasn't a number to contact corporate. Really, do you expect me to believe that the reps in the Everett gym are the end-all be-all for LA Fitness! After searching the net, I found the number to member services and actually canceled my wife's account over the phone (after the Everett LA Fitness said you have to physically come in) and received a confirmation email on it.
I am now looking into a different gym for a membership for myself! The reps at the Everett LA Fitness gym have terrible customer service and I would never refer anyone to them again!! Please beware of that gym. Their service was so bad that I don't even think I'll give the Mill Creek location a second try. I wouldn't want to keep investing in a business that rewards the Everett gym for their horrible service.
FYI...if anyone needs the number to their member services (because Everett gym won't give it to you and will tell you that you have to come in to cancel), here it is: 949-255-7200 (option 5)

Unethical Billing for Personal Training
Enrolled in their Personal Training Program and had problems from day 1. Their on-line documentation showed me having more training sessions than I actually had. I attempted to get it corrected 3 times with no success. And 1 session I did have was done by a person who wasn't even a Certified Trainer but I assumed he was as he was the Manager of the department. He paid little attention to me during that session as well. I showed up for another session and my assigned Trainer wasn't there and no one else took me but it still showed on sessions used. Funny that if I didn't show up when scheduled, I would be billed anyway. They would not terminate my contract and continued to bill my credit card. Still paying too even though I sent a 2 page detailed description to the main office of each and every falsified event. DON'T TRUST THEM AND DON'T JOIN.

Personal Trainer Contract
I have filed a complaint with the BBB regarding LA Fitness taking money from my acount after I cancelled the personal trainer membership. LA Fitness has violated my rights to cancel the membership within a reasonable, allowable, and allocable timeframe. It violates my right to cancel services I feel are not adequate, reasonable and professional. LA Fitness wants to bind a person to the contract and still collect money; they state that you either have to be sick or dead to get out of the contract, you just cannot cancel the contract because you do not want their service. This is a violation of contract law. I am seeking a lawyer to start a class action lawsuit. Any information regarding LA Fitness contract(s) will greatly help me in my pursuit to sue LA Fitness.

Discriminate toward minority
Abuse of power. Mislead people to sign the contract. Poor management. Unfriendly environment.
My membership at LA Fitness is little over 2 years. I finally canceled it for couple reasons:
- Misjudgment, ignorant. This lead to discriminating
- Overused of power
- Mismanagement of facility. There’s no common rule for clients
- Poor maintenance of equipments
- Noises. When 315 lbs being drop on the floor next to you not once but almost every day
-Staff members side with the ‘Noises’ and make fun out of it

Gross disregard for member concerns
This notice is posted at our local club and it says it is corporate policy. If you abide by it then you are not allowed to open the door at any time to enter rooms. The issue is that they value their defective doors more than their paying members. Bellow follows the note posted on the door. It is in very bold letters and fills the page and you can click on the photo to see it:
All Studio Doors Must Remain
Closed At ALL Times.
Doors Propped Open Have
Already Broken Two Doors and Will No
Longer Be Tolerated. If Anyone Wants The
Classroom Cooler The Lights Will Need To
Be Turned On. These Are Corporate
Policies And We All Must Comply With Them.

Membership Cancellation
I was a member of an LA Fitness in NJ for about a year. I have no complaints about the club itself. The facilites were always reasonably clean, the machines in working order and there were enough of them. I didn't take any classes or use a trainer. A gym is a gym. Some are a little nicer than others but you get what you pay for.
My complaint is about their cancellation policy. I understand that they want to make it as hard as possible so that they keep collecting your money. At their low membership fees that is a big part of how they make money. So, I am willing to jump through a few hoops to cancel in order to save a few bucks on fees. However the lengths they go to are almost comical.
First you have to download the form to cancel. Ok, not too bad. However their system doesn't support Mac! I had to go find another computer to print it out. Fill it out, as instructed and send it in. As the web site suggested I sent it registered/signature required. Knowing how they work I would have done this anyway. Well, two months later I get a call from them saying my credit card had expired and they needed it up dated because I owed them two months membership. I told them that I had cancelled. The woman on the phone tried everything she could think of to explain why it hadn't been processed;
- It may have gotten lost in the mail. I told her I had a reciept. Incredibly she reiterated that it might have gotten lost in the mail. I explained I had a reciept. She stammered that she meant it might have gotten lost in their internal mail. I explaind that that was not my problem. They had signed for it. As far as I was concerned they had it.
- Maybe I sent it the wrong way. You have to fill out the form fold it over and tape it shut. She explained that I must have put it in an envelop. If you do that apparently the monkeys that handle their mail are not able to sort it. I assured her, that knowing how they work, I had followed instructions to the letter.
She said I needed to show them the receipt. Unfortunately it was in my office so I had to wait until the next day. I call back and get some guy. he pulls up the account and notes that the account was cancelled as of yesterday. I still want credit. He says I'll have to bring in the reciept. I tell him there is not an LA Fitness near where I am. I don't have time to do that. Why can't I give him the tracking number and he can look on the USPS web site? Oh, we don't have internet access here. Oh thats right, the internet hasn't reached Irvine CA yet! According to him they can only access the LA Fitness web site. Then whats the point of the computer on everyone's desk? Ok, I'll email it. Oh we don't have email. Very retro they are. Lets try some 20th century technology: I'll fax it. He says I can't fax anything outside of the 714 area code. It takes a second to process this. I say, very slowly, I am faxing it to you. He says I know, but our fax is only local and will only accept faxes from 714! I asked if he understood how the phone system worked. Silence. Finally he transfered me to someone else. They finally took care of it. Of course I'll be checking my bills.
So, as far as gyms go it isn't bad but be prepared to fight them if you want to cancel.
One last thing: negotiate if you do sign up. I got them down from the $150 or so "initiation" fee to $110. My buddy went in a week later and simply said I'm not paying it and got them down to $60.00 and a reduced monthly. I think mine was $25 as was his.

Lack of Cleanliness
The gym off California Oaks Road is poorly managed. Half of the people using the gym use no towel at all, leaving a their sweat on the mats and equipment for the next patron to deal with. The personal trainers do not require their clients to have a towel. When I arrive in the morning, various weights from the weight room are scattered throughout the workout areas. Personal trainers leave weights on the floor and never teach their clients to re rack. The head maintenence guy washes the mirrors daily and squeegies the dirty soapy water onto the the newly laid carpet below. This place is understandably filthy. Management does not enforce any of the rules. After years of complaining, I will no longer renew my membership there.

Cancellation Troubles
The credit card that was on file for my membership had expired. When contacted concerning the expiration, I informed the man on the phone that I also wanted to cancel my membership. He said, "no problem, lets get this card number to cover the last months dues and then I will go ahead and cancel. I received an e-mail stating that my membership was up to date, so I contacted him and he said, "don't worry about that, it is all taken care of for you." Needless to say he lied and I kept getting charged. I contacted my local gym and the girl told me she would take care of it and put in a request to return the charges. Of course that wasn't true either. No matter what anybody tells you, make sure any mailing are certified and you get names and documentation for everything. I will never recommend LA Fitness to anybody, based solely on their business practices.

Billing
My wife signed a contract for a $180/month personal training deal which gave her 6 visits per month. She has lupus, mixed-connective tissue disease, rheumatoid arthritis and raynauds, so the goal was to help build strenght and improve circulation. After the first month of visits, she became too ill to continue using the gym and the personal training service. The contract allows for a breach with a physician's note explaining why, which we were easily able to provide. LA Fitness is still billing us for the $180/month, and it has been 3 months since we provided them with the necessary documentation. I have had to resort to disputing the charges with the credit card, but my guess is that this company will fight this tooth and nail to try and get as much money from us as possible. My wife has since had to endure surgery to try and stop the infections that keep occurring on her hands from the poor ciruculation, so she will not be able to resume any gym activity for a long, long time.
