bad business
I have applied several times for a position at LA fitness. I have been conversing with managers before the building was even built. I have received the run around on several occasion and still receiving it even now. My first application submission was by paper to Barry. I sat down had an interview with him and stated that the position I was interested in was the front desk position. because I'm a people person and have 5 years of experience as a receptionist. He told me someone would be in touch with me in November. ( An application that was never entered) But I continued to check in. Still awaiting that call which I didn't receive, I came by. I saw Barry and he told me the front desk position was now taken but there should be some positions still available. So I went in and talked to Bruce who I was also familiar with because I met him also before the gym opened. Bruce gave me a tour, explained the available positions and referred me to Jose. Jose, who could not seem to find my application that I submitted to Barry and referred me back to Bruce. Bruce ( who is the only competent employee), set me up at a computer to fill out an on-line application. Once I was finish Jose and I spoke briefly and he explained to me that you Sam was the one I needed to speak to. So then I was sent away and told by Jose that he will be in-touch with me to set up an interview. An once again, after I did not receive a call. I called and spoke to Jose who asked me to come in. An when I did, Jose forgot that he even asked me to come in and had me sitting in the lobby for a half an hour. Then he came to me and stated again that he needed to meet with you and asked me to fill-out another paper application. So I patiently left and filled out yet another application and return it later that afternoon. When I returned with the application I had an interview with Sam ( the head manager). We discussed the ends and outs of the position and he said I was hired and then passed me over to Jose to finish it out. Jose, according to Sam was suppose to set me up with a schedule and when to come in to fill out my paperwork. However, Jose, didn't have the information to do so. So he stated once again that he was going to get in-touch with Sam about where he can put me in the schedule then get back to me. I think you know that he never did. Still, I continued to check-in with him as well as Barry. An Still they said the same thing, that they needed to hear from Sam. So I contacted Sam myself and let him know that I have never had to go through so much just applying for a job that would be lucky to have me. Someone who's a hard worker, friendly, clearly persistent and that has enough family that would have filled their entire gym. I do not like how I have been treated with this establishment and if they find a better staff and improve they're employment process...they just might succeed...But until then, they are going to lose a lot of customers ! just like they've lost me!

Liars
I Signed up for this gym specifically because I wanted to use the racquetball court. I also wanted to bring my brother there every couple weeks or so to play. When I signed up I Stressed this to the sales guy several times. I asked the sales guy several times about the process of reserving a court and he said whenever you need to reserve a court, just call in 24 hours ahead of time and you can reserve it no problem. I asked him SPECIFICLY ! if it would cost me any extra to reserve the court, or to bring a guest to play racquetball.
I was told, anyone can reserve the courts and you get alot of guest passes, and when I run out of guest passes he will give me more..
Turns out the first time I tried to reserve a court, they told me I don't have a racquetball by my name in the system, and that I would have to pay extra each month to be able to reserve courts... So we showed up with no reservation and when we tried to use the guest pass, they tried to take down all his information and were trying to get him to sign up for a membership! He lives 1 hour away!!! After they took all his information etc, they told us that the racquetball courts can't be used when you are using the guest pass!!! I am so pissed.. I asked to talk to the guy who signed me up and they said he now works at a different location.. What a bunch of scammers. They will tell you anything to get you to sign up, but then no one is held accountable for what they said when you join. They don't have a customer email address you can send complaints to and their customer service desk is closed on the weekend.. I checked on their web site and it specificly says that you are allowed to use all the facilities with the guest pass..
This company is a freaking joke...

Political nonsense
As of this week all of the Televisions didn't have FOX NEWS on them and only displayed ESPN along with CNN and MSNBC. I asked if I could get one channel changed to FNC and was told that Corporate had blocked the station in all the clubs. I don't care what people watch or don't watch but why would you create a political issue in a business? Two members have cancelled at this gym today and as soon as I find a similarly priced gym I will be doing the same.

Sarah Kraft LA Fitness Court Harassment
February 24, 2010
Sarah Kraft LA Fitness Seattle
I went over the head of the operations manager, Sarah Kraft at my LA Fitness in Seattle and complained to corporate. She took me to court to try to get an antiharrassment order against me. She thought going over her head was harrassment. The company actually paid money to hire an attorney to help her. The judge dismissed the case and told her that customer complaints were part of her customer service job and "deal with it".

Pool Heater Broken
I joined LA fitness specifically to have access to a pool. After one week into my membership, the pool heater broke. Apparently, the pool heater at the Gresham and Pearl location are also broken. I was told that it was going to be repaired last week and nothing happened. Today I was given the "we have no idea when it's going to be repaired. Corporate needs to buy a new heater and we have no control over when they do that. It may be weeks before it's repaired." This is completely unaccaptable. Corporate should not hesitate to buy new heaters for its paying customers.

Billing nightmare
The facility is great, but customer service is bad. Dealing with billing is a nightmare!
I have been a member for 1 year, spending over $2, 000 in a year. At the end of the year I inquired about personal training contract renewal. The manager called me within a few days and informed me that they can offer to me personal training membership for $20 (the original rate was $30). I specifically asked if there are any additional fees associated with it. He informed me that since I am already a customer, there will be no additional fees or account set up fees. I also asked if I need to do anything else, e.g. sign contract, and he assured me that all I needed to do is to authorize transaction over the phone.
February comes and I look at my credit card statement and I see multiple charges. I called the LA Norwalk office and it turns out here how transactions break down:
1. $150: $92 dollars for training membership (new discounted rate) + 50 dollars processing fee (which I was not informed about)
2. $31 and S31 - monthly membership for 2 people (no complaints here)
2. $127 - training membership fee at original rate
Person informed me that charges are correct because I have two training accounts set up, one for me and one for my husband. I responded that it is impossible since my husband rarely goes to the gym and if he needs proof, he can check attendance records. I told him how my training membership was renewed and he repeated multiple times that these charges are my fault because I never cancelled my first training membership. I emphasized that I was told my account was being “renewed” and I never agreed to establish a second training membership. I asked to resolve this issue and provide a reimbursement. He replied that I have to cancel my membership to not incur further charges, but he cannot do anything about reimbursement since this is my fault. I asked to speak with the owner and was told that someone will give me a call back.
Is this how a person should be treated when I pay over $2, 000 a year? I understand errors occur, but I am totally taken aback that they are reluctant to address the issue and imply taht the issue is my fault.

money
Hi my name is Maria, been a long time customer with La Fitness(sheridan and 52nd ave)to be exact... there was this ad on my email but when I got there, they said different:
Restart your membership today for $0 initiation fee and only $29.99 per month for multi-club access. First and last months' dues required at the time of enrollment.*
I had to pay for the money down ($40) and $35 per month...I would like to know how I go about getting it back, and if this is true????

like buying a used car
i had a friend who went through car sales training years ago. it was before car dealerships decided to change their tactics from the old school thinking of "how many ways can your screw the pig(customers)" to put the price on the car and thats the price. well they must of sold their old training manuals to LA Fitness. Its sad to think that LA Fitness is only holding their heads above the water by ripping off consumers by sticking their dirty little hands into i'm sure thousands of hard working american checking accounts each month and taking out their membership dues. my experience in the past was that i thought my membership would expire after a year. stupid me...my bad...i'm to blame. now 2 years later and not being able to ingnore the cost of membership due to the economy i discovered my checking account has been milked around 600.00 smackers for nothing. once again stupid me. so i decided to cancel my membership. should be as easy as it was when i signed up for membership right? once again ... stupid me. how do employees of this company sleep at night? you can tell when you complain about the process and even the nightmare stories of others they(the employees) are so brain washed they don't care and are trained to make things as difficult as possible. heres my opinion of LA Fitnesses company policy and their training routine.

class of say 15 to 20 people (probably to fill 2 or 3 open positions but due to most people have a conscience they have to accomidate for fallout)

An A rating? how can they do that...oh...thats where my money has been going...sorry bbb but you set yourself up for it. look into this companies business policies and practices. get you nose out on the streets and investigate. do your job. i think i'll start a blog.

lazy, wimpy club managers
I am writing about the horrendous managers at the Apple Valley, MN club. Many of us would complain to the wimpy managers about not demanding offending members who leave their locks overnight (for WEEKS at a time) to take them out or they will cut them off. Alicia especially, was one of the wimpiest...her response was, well we don't want to offend any of our members...even though there were so many lockers with locks on them that it was hard to get a locker during the busy time periods! We told her the club policy was any locks left overnight should be cut off! Your own policy!!! Once we complained enough we were asked to leave the club and viewed as troublemakers. Wow, asking the wimpy club manager to enforce the clubs own "rules" and you get labeled a troublemaker. My membership was revoked and I was told that I could not apply at any other club. I have since moved to southern California and when I tried to re-apply at a San Diego club last week I was denied membership because of my "attitude and troublemaker" comments in my file from Alicia. On top of this...they charged me for 3 months dues AFTER they revoked my membership! It took me about 10 phone calls to get my money back! On top of this, a gal friend of mine signed up for 12 months of training with a personal trainer. After seeing that their trainers are actually high school kids with no training she stopped going. Well, after 12 months the 13th month and she got billed again! Well, you must give IN WRITING a cancellation notice or they roll over your contract and keep billing you!!! A total rip off! Avoid, avoid, avoid at all costs these clubs!!!
