Totally ignored
17 year old boy was bitten by an adult, in a basketball court on 08-18-08. When child complained to staff, his complained was totally ignored - two bumps on back of his head - and HE, not the thugh that hit him - was asked to leave.
Met with the General Manager and his assistant, and was suggested "MY SON" cancel his membership, not the thug! Want to warn all parents not to trust LA Fitness personnel because they just don't care what happens to minors in their facilities.
A Police report was filed to make sure there is evidence of the abuse, totally ignored by LA Fitness Staff.

Not honoring warranty
I signed up for an LA fitness membership on 7/22/2009. I was given a contract by the sales representative for a multi-club
membership, 0 initiation fee, 34.99 a month. The contract was given to me and I accepted the terms, and gave them a credit
card for payment. LA Fitness informed me that they were going to give me a 7 day pass and I was to return after the pass
expired to initiate my membership. I returned on 7/29/2009 and spoke to the representative, Ray Diaz (phone# 954 610
2471). He informed me that they would not be able to honor the rate given to me on 7/22/2009 even though I have a
contract executed by both parties for the aforementioned rate. They informed me that the rate that they offered "did not get
approved", even though they offered it to me, put it in a contact, and accepted my credit card information. The manager at
this location did not offer any remedy when I said that I would not accept a higher rate. I called the corporate office and
spoke to Nina who offered little to no assistance. She informed me that even though I had a contract that they would not
honor that rate. In summary, I signed up for a specific rate, signed a contract provided by LA Fitness to me, and now LA
Fitness refuses to honor it.

Awful company
LA Fitness LIES about the way you need to cancel the member ship. When you go in to sign up they tell you that you need to give them the first and last month fee. You give them either you bank accout info or credit card info for auto deductions. When you are ready to stop using their services (in our case my son is going back to college) he gave them 20 days notice from his last billing date. They are now telling him that he needed to give them a notice not 20 days but a month and 20 days prior to cancellation. These people are RUDE and inappropriate. They would not listen to me or my son and refused to help or even listen to us in any way. We live in Greenwood Indiana. I will call their Corporate Headquarters to try and get this resolved but I am not hopeful. I am turning them in to the Better Business Bureau!

signing up/accessability
Membership sign-up... They did not follow the terms and conditions for payment. This caused a overdraft on my account twice. When I spoke, wrote, faxed and emailed they ignored their indiscretion. I went to the facility manager who cared less. I complained about the eleavator frequently out of service. I have limitations that were expressed at the time of signing up. I spoke to numerous club employess about the problem. Once again the problem was ignored. I was not able to use my membership because of this problem. They would not cancel my membership. Thank god I have a private bank and we stopped it immediately. Ironically, they contacted me early this month and I told the new sales person what it would take and he cared less.

Dirty, out of order, rules not enforced
My hubby and I were thrilled when LA Fitness opened last August. All the other health clubs in our smallish town are about the size of our living room, so we were very excited to have a big, new gym in town. We were so looking forward to it that we joined in April, well before the club even opened.
The first couple of months went fine. But then things started going downhill.
Now, only 11 months after opening this brand new location, the machines and locker rooms are filthy. I used to get sick once a year. Since I've joined this gym, I'm getting sick every 2-3 months, and that's the only thing that's changed in my daily routine so I know it's because of the uncleanliness of the machines. And I take a TON of vitamins every day to help boost my immunity. I talked to someone who works there, and he won't even work out there because it's so dirty. He works at LA Fitness but has a membership for a different gym. I think that says it all!
The AC has been out of order several times. And, yes, we are in the desert, and it is summer, so you can imagine how great that feels. When I complained to the VP about it, he said it was good that it was out of order because that means it's working properly to filter dust out of the air. Gee, I've never heard the saying, "It's broken, so that means it's working!" What a moron.
The hot tub has been broken more times than I can count. The pool's been drained a few times. Free weights are hardly never re-racked in the proper places. There's an assisted pull-up machine that has been out of order for over a month. The dress code isn't enforced-I've even seen people in bare feet on the treadmill. The staff hasn't even gotten around to untying the palm tree fronds out front even though they've had 11 months.
My hubby and I tried complaining to the manager, but it did no good. Nor did it do any good talking to Corporate. Therefore, I will vote with my wallet. While I don't want to join a teeny tiny gym, it's better than continuing to work out at LA Fitness, getting sick and frustrated all the time.
I have also heard that the staff does drugs in the parking lot, and they get promoted when they do bad things. For example, some sales guys set up their canopy outside a competitor's door to try to steal their business. When the manager ran them off, one of them threatened her with "you have no idea what I'm capable of." She went to LA Fitness to tell the manager, and then she found out the guy got promoted the next day.
I'm taking my business elsewhere!

Cancellation Refund
It seems to be a recurring theme. You sign up during a promotion that's "ending tomorrow". Three days later, having figured out that it makes more sense to join the club 5 blocks to the east rather than the LA Fitness 5 miles to the west, you mail in your cancellation form on the third business day. ( I recall at the time thinking "What's to keep them from just tossing it in the trash and saying they didn't get it?", but, like a good Minnesotan, tossed that thought aside as just paranoia. Silly me. )
They say to wait 10 days for an email response. Six days later, having not yet heard from them, you inquire about your refund. They call headquarters in Irvine. They say "We did not receive your cancellation form." (I did not send it by certified mail, nor did the instructions say this was required.)
THEN... they have the gall to say "Well, it's WAY too late now to get your refund, but we will cancel it now if you want." That's right. They say "Wait 10 days" and then 6 days later say "It's too late now."
So... LA Fitness takes my $169 [$100 + $30 (1st month) + $30 (last month) + $19 (tax)] for their cost of 6 miles on a treadmill and 3 minutes of warm water for showers - and thinks that's OK.

Pro Results personal training
I am not happy at all with the aggressive and high-pressure sales tactics employed by LA Fitness for their Pro Results personal training program! I'm sure there are success stories out there, but certainly LA Fitness has a lot to learn about customer service. I just had a truly awful experience with LA Fitness and their Pro Results program and sales staff. The personal trainer who introduced me to the program was really great and they actually gave me two sessions instead of the typical 1. I'm a reasonable person and knows that there is no free lunch, I was patiently waiting for the sales pitch and was actually ready to sign on. That came at the end of the second session. I was given the typical hoopla about the wonderful benefits of the program and how much better I would feel (Which, of course, was very true. All of us can benefit from a good personal trainer). I went along with the pitch, but I was really interested in the bottom line and the details. I was already sold on the "Why I wanted this."
The personal trainer/sales rep finally brought out the pricing guide (if you could call it that). It reminded me of the silly four box car sales sheet you get at the dealership. It consisted of three headings with the length of contract and a number. Bellow each heading was a series of 4 numbers: 2, 4, 8, 12. There were no explanations anywhere on this sheet. Even the trainer/sales rep was confused (he was fairly new). He had to call his boss to have it explained. What the numbers were was the number of sessions per month, and the number in the heading was the cost per session. So, for a 3 month contract, you paid roughly $60 per session. What's more, you are billed monthly based on the number of sessions you selected. the problems didn't start until I asked for details about how the sessions would be scheduled, what the cancellation policy was, what would happen if I was called out of town (I'm an engineer who is called out to customer sites on a regular basis).
This is when things got ugly. the trainer/rep was really nice about it and took my questions and asked his boss (who was on the phone) about the details. the boss (Eddy) refused to provide any. I persisted in my questions and the phone was handed to me. Rather than answer my questions, I was thrown into a high-pressure sales pitch with the typical "ignore my question", followed by the "how much are you willing to pay?" type dialog. I then asked for a printed copy of the contract so that I could look it over before signing anything. The boss outright refused, stating that company policy was not to provide this until the contract was signed. Excuse me!!? You must sign the contract before you can see it??? The boss also refused to provide any other details about cancellation or exact details about missed sessions since I would be paying on a monthly basis and not a per session basis. The boss asked to talk with the trainer again. I guess the boss lit a fire because the trainer redoubled his efforts to get me to sign the contract right then and there. I refused and told them that I never sign contracts on the day I am presented with one. I always stop to think. They were not happy with this at all and I nearly had to just get up and walk away. I politely told the trainer that I was not going to sign anything that day and that I would think it over and crunch the numbers on the program I wanted and see if I could afford it. (Hello, we are in an economic crisis here. What happens if I'm unemployed? (A big possibility))
I crunched the numbers and the price did not make sense for me, all things considered. Not wanting to take the cowardly way out (although I dreaded having a repeat of the day before) I came in the next day for my daily workout and stopped by the trainer's desk to give him my decision. Well, when I went over to his desk, there was another gentleman there. The gentleman turned out to be the trainer's boss whom I had spoken to over the phone the day before. I introduced myself and told the trainer I was very sorry, that I really enjoyed the training sessions and working with him, but that I had to decline given my current job situation and the economy. The program was just too pricey. The boss immediately injects himself into the conversation and starts asking for what I can afford. I curtly tell him that they are just too pricey. He starts arguing with me over how much my health is worth and that I need to give him a number. I made the mistake of answering him. He jumps on this number and first berates me for giving him a ridiculous number and then somehow finds a program at that cost. I was actually happy at first. But then, he still refused to answer my questions about the terms of the contract and providing any solid details about how I made schedules and what happens if I'm out of town. This boss refused to give up, and tried humiliating me into signing by telling me that I just like to waste peoples time and I never had any intention of signing up. I just wanted to abuse their hospitality and waste the trainer's valuable time. I'm now getting angry (yet trying to stay cool, because getting into a shouting match never helps anything). I'm still refusing to budge and the boss resorts to accusing me of BSing them and that he knew I was BSing when he talked to me the day before. I took my leave right then and walked away, telling them that I would come back when things had changed.
You know, that really stunk because I go to that gym regularly and now I have to put up with this jerk who runs the place and wouldn't take no for an answer.
LA Fitness, are you listening????!
All I wanted was:
The terms of contract, clearly stated, on paper.
The pricing terms, clearly stated.
The scheduling terms and how I set up appointments, clearly stated.
What happens when I am not able to attend a session (since this is billed monthly), clearly stated.
The cancellation policy and restrictions, clearly stated.
Not only could the sales staff not provide these details, the management refused!!? Not only that, but I'm openly insulted to boot. Accused of wasting their time! Wait a minute, who's paying the bills here? Wait again, who was approached, unsolicited, by the trainer/sales rep?
You are lucky you have good facilities. I am really leaning on canceling my membership, but the LA Fitness has the nearest gym to where I work. This has left a very sour taste in my mouth regarding LA Fitness.

Awful company
I recently moved and are now living far from the nearest LA Fitness center. I stopped by before I moved out to terminate my membership. They told me I need to send them a filled out form by mail. Ridiculous. I printed it our and sent it. A month later I saw I am still being charged. I called them. They said "they have no record of my cancellation". How convenient! I filled the form again and sent it as a certified mail to have the proof of me mailing and them receiving.
The charges continued. I closed my bank account, and now I am getting calls from LA Fitness asking me to update my banking account information. I said I canceled my membership but for some reason it's still open.
