LA Fitness Reviews

Store manager Luis was extremely disrespectful
Luis which is the manager at the la fitness in Miami gardens, Florida was rude and disrespectful. I enter the gym on a Sunday 7/6/08 and was asked to take a photo. I simply asked why and he looked me in my face and demanded I take a photo. I told him I was not his child and said he did not care. He had a problem with explaining the new procedure to a paying customer. I was extremely displeased today. I immediately terminated my contract along with two other friends and decided to take our business elsewhere.

Fraudsters
When you sign up for LA fitness they pride themselves at advertising how flexible your membership is. If you want to stop coming all you have to do is say so, we will freeze your account and it will be there for you when you are ready to return. The membership is on a month by month basis and you can cancel anytime. Yada, yada, yada. I am sure many current or past members can confirm this. BUT. When you try to cancel they will not let you. They tell you that you must print out a form, fill it out, and mail it. Provide them 30 days notice, and then your account will be canceled. This is a TOTAL scam to get 1 or 2 additional months out of you at a minimum. Multiply that by the number of people in your family, say 4 @ $37 per month and that is a rip off of at least 2x4x37=$296. That is if you get off with just that. I am in the process of canceling the credit card they have on file with the hopes that they don't charge my other accounts as some other reports here indicate that they will go after your other accounts. IT IS A TOTAL SCAM. With gas prices today and the current economy why would anyone 'kill a tree', 'pay for postage', 'pay a postal worker', 'burn fossil fuel', then 'pay for postage processing' in order to cancel an account? THE ANSWER IS... drum roll -> TO RIP YOU OFF. Before you consider joining an LA Fitness make sure you have at least 6 months extra dues because that is reasonable reserve and what it takes to cancel your membership.

Awful company
Neither wind, nor hail, nor dishonest employees, will stop some companies from making a buck at your expense. I became a member of LA Fitness in late 07. Shortly afterward, I entered into a training membership. January 08, I was approached by a trainer stating that he and other trainers were looking to take money under the table to train members. They emphasized that my trainer was quitting, and they could continue servicing those clients at less cost. The Manager/ Trainer at this club Ill refer to him as Bryan, received two separate visits at the club from police officers, anxious to speak with him. I later found out it wasn't for a donation to their favorite charity. Also in the same timeframe Bryan was at this club:

Another club member, signed up with Bryan, and shortly after, his credit card information had been compromised, among other things, to purchase pornography on-line. Were talking over $1, 500.00. A trainer at the club, who worked for LA Fitness previously alongside Bryan, stated he also had his credit card information compromised, and $400.00 was used to purchase pet care products at the store directly behind that location. His personal items were kept behind the trainers desk while he trained. Club members vehicles have been repeatedly broken into in the parking lot of this club while Bryan was employed there.

My own credit card used to debit my membership and trainers dues has been compromised, and had to be canceled. None of this would necessarily, in my opinion, be the fault of LA Fitness EXCEPT for the fact, that AFTER this was made known to them, NOTHING was remedied. No phone calls returned nothing.
When I brought my concerns to the attention of the LA Fitness corporate office in February 08, they assured me the Regional Training Manager, Justin, would call me. In fact, since February 1st, Ive spoken to the office on 3 occasions, and each promises me the same resolution. He NEVER called. I did finally speak on the phone with Justin, ONLY because the Operations Manager at the club, Julie, contacted him after I explained everything to her in June. I explained that after contacting personnel, and sending registered letters, I am still being harassed by Body of Change. Justin took my number and told me he would look into it, but I needed to provide him with documentation of the situation. Within less than 24 hours, the paperwork was in Julies hands and faxed over. He was going get back in touch with me within a few days. Almost a month later - June 26th - he calls me; why? Perhaps, due to the fact that a complaint was filed with the Better Business Bureau. During that same visit, Julie also walked me over to the Trainers Desk to meet Jose. Jose apparently is the NEW manager/trainer. He took my information, including the copies of my letters, and my phone number, and assured me if he didn't call me back that same day, he would definitely be in touch with me within the next day. He was very absolute. Surprise never returned a call to me.

Now, they are attempting to settle with me for far more than what the sessions cost they conveniently forgot that I had free sessions as part of the package. This constant lack of concern to my circumstance proves to me that Body of Change is not alarmed about any of these issues, has no care for club members, or their personal belongings, including credit information. If you've had similar experiences with this club, let me know. Id be more than happy to share additional details. E mail me at: (((ROR redacted))) to contact the individual above Justin Rivers, his name is Mike Ulibarrie. He is the vice president over the territory. Give him a call.

Nothing improves or kills a business better than word of mouth. The volume of business companies such as this stand to lose in memberships and in training, can surpass what my requests and pleads have been for my situation.

They mislead customers
They have kept charging my credit card for more than 6 months even after I cancelled. They offered me 8 free personal training lessons but never gave it. They really suck. Somebody should file a class action suit. When I complained they ask me to come see them to cancel the membership. Then when I went to see them they said they can not cancel it and I have to write to the corporate headquarter. I said when I signed up I did not write to corporate headquarter so why should I do it now. They just make it extremely difficult to cancel the membership. Also the personal trainers are not professional, from the 30 minutes they spend 10 minutes doing this and that or talking. I have also heard racist remarks.

Just horrible
LA fitness - Langhorne pa is absolutely disgusting. The machines and bathrooms are not kept clean.

The members themselves are disgusting pigs who can't wipe the equipment down after using it. I'm would be afraid to catch diseases if I used their facility.

Their personal training staff is the worst. Most do not even have their certificate - just ask for proof. And if they do it's because thy sat through a 1 day class. They are more interested in getting a date than actually helping clients. And it's a nightmare to cancel. They will bill you until you cancel your credit card.

Rip off
I joined LA Fitness around a month ago and decided to try Pro Results Personal training. The Sales Rep was very "enthusiastic" wrote a contract for 9 months and told me i could cancel it any time, without any penalties. After 2 weeks I decided to cancel it and contacted the Sales rep who signed me up for the program. He told me to think it over and said that I had two more weeks time before I can cancel it. So I said okay and waited two more weeks and confronted him again. By this time his attitude had totally changed. He was acting as if he did not even know me anymore, and was trying to ignore me. He said it will cost me 50% of what I owe for the next 8 months for terminating the contract, as it had exceeded 1 month! I was very shocked to hear this. When I read the contract I realized this part was in the "fine print", which I did not notice at first. When I ask him why he told me that I could cancel it anytime, he used sentences like "Did you read the contract?" and "Do not raise your voice against me" and started threatening me (talk about customer service!). Thats when I realized that all of this was big scam.

Luckily the "fine print" in the contract also said that if the total amount is greater that $2500, i had 45 days to cancel it, instead of the usual 30 days. The sales rep did not notice this and this is what saved me. When I asked him about this, he changed his story again. Now he is telling me that I need to send a written mail (30 day advance notice) to some address, and that I would me charged in the meantime. I searched the net found that in fact there were hundreds of similar complaints against LA Fitness 'Pro Results'. After doing a lot of searching, I was able to get the phone number of a person working in the main office. That person assisted me in canceling the contract in 5 minutes.

So my advice to anyone out there is that try to stay away from LA Fitness "Pro Results" Program. If not, please negotiate carefully. These people would do anything to bring in new customers by making false promises and rob them in broad daylight.

Rip off
Joined La Fitness on Nov 2007 also signed on for 12 months to Body of Change Personal Training .The training went well for most part then I developed Plantar Facilities and Heel Spur went to Doc and got treatment but still in severe pain and he recommend that I quit all gym activities . Sent a cancellation letter for my fitness membership also for my Personal training membership with Doctors letter via certified mail . Got email stating fitness membership cancelled but nothing of personal training called Corporate and she said they did not receive any cancellation for personal training or doctors letter even though it was in the same certified letter.

This company is a SCAM/RIPOFF .

I am going to take this further if my second doctor’s letter and cancellation is not honoured.

Beware
LA Fitness is a scam, I have not met one person who has not felt this way about them. Their personal trainers have minimal training and are paid minimum wage-the club keeps the rest. If the trainers help you and the club finds out you did not pay for it then the trainers are fired. They want your bank account info and will debit it continually even if you stop using the trainers, they make you jump through hoops to cancel anything and claim you did not follow proper direction and will continue to bill you. You cannot quit in person-everything must be mailed to corporate and if it gets "lost in the mail" well that's your fault too. Beware-it is all a scam. They are the worst gym out there. They do not care about their customers.

Cancelled but they kept billing
I phoned LA Fitness to cancel my wifes membership that had gone unused for quite some time. I was told I had to come into the gym to cancel. We drove to the gym where we were told we needed a form filled out and sent to their corporate office. We were provided with the form and membership number. Friends and family have told me stories about quitting gyms in the past so I was diligent and sent the form to the address provided right away. That was February. It is now June my wife says the gym is still charging us. Sure enough it shows up on the direct debit.

I phoned the gym and spoke with the front desk who apologized and promised to ring me back shortly. She phoned back within thirty minutes. She said that there was no record of receiving my form and that the best they could do is stop billing immediately. Sounded like a scam to me for sure.

If you send in a cancellation form be sure to tell the person at the gym that you will be sending it registered mail (and do it!). I will complain again if the billing does not stop. Stay tuned...

Canceling membership
Been trying for a month to cancel membership, which, oddly, one can not do by phone or walking into a local fitness centre (Note: I had no problems writing a check and signing up by walking in). As a member of the military who recently received orders, I went to my "club" in Doral, FL as instructed, picked up cancellation form, and was told to mail it to LA Fitness HQ. Desk attendant said that the postmarked date on envelope would be used to prorate. A month later, my membership fee is still being withdrawn from my account. I called LA Fitness HQ, explained process I'd been through, then received a "we see no signs of cancellation" response and an "if it were me I would have..." lecture that included instructions on walking in to a nearby club, asking for a cancellation form, ensuring the desk attendant makes a note on your account (confirm with your own eyes), fill out paper form, and send it via certified mail to LA Fitness HQ followed by weekly phone call check-ups. What a work-out. While talking to LA Fitness HQ Phone Witch, I was trying to perfect a new stretch where I reached through the phone and gripped her belligerent neck. My advice: do push-ups or join the military if you want to get fit; otherwise, walk into LA Fitness, bend over, and touch your toes.
