Unauthorized account charges
LA Fitness added someone to my account today without even contacting me to authorize!! My roommate is new in town and wanted to join my gym so we could do classes/workout together. She went into the gym today and asked about her signup options. They asked her if she knew someone who was already a member so she said, 'yes my roommate.' The LA Fitness associate simply asked her for my phone number to pull up my account info and proceeded to add her to my account, just like that. I didn't get a phone call, email, anything. Of course my roommate contacted me to say hey, I just joined LA Fitness and they put me under your account. I wasn't too happy with her for letting them do it without contacting me, but I'm more pissed at LA Fitness for not following proper procedure. This is UNETHICAL and just plain wrong. Not to mention an utter lack of professional courtesy to LA Fitness clients. When I called the location where this occurred and spoke to the GM, he basically admitted that they 'are supposed to, but don't always' verify add-ons with the primaryaccount holder. What the ***! Basically my monthly bill would've doubled, and if my roommate hadn't told me, I wouldn't have even known about it until the amount came out of my account! My roommate apologized and went back up to the gym to cancel this addition to my account and open her own membership, only then did I get an email from LA Fitness (confirming the cancellation). All this was going on while I was at work, so I on;y spoke briefly with the GM and when he put me on hold for 10 minutes I had to hang up and go into a meeting. I called back when I came home, and spoke with a lady in Customer Service who apologized profusely and told me that the primary accountholder is always supposed to present to sign an agreement whenever someone is added to theiraccount. So basically the GM I spoke with earlier is blatantly breaking rules to line his pockets with commission bonuses, and has no qualms about admitting it! I told the lady in customer service that since they didn't give a flip about adding someone to my account, I could care less about going through their ridiculous cancellation process and wanted my account cancelled immediately. She said they would do a 'courtesy cancellation' and that I won't be charged on my next billing date, which is the 15th. I am really curious to see if they try to charge me one last time for this month's dues...if they charge me one more penny I will raise *** until I get a refund! I chalk this up to a lesson learned - there are plenty of great gyms out there that don't make you sign your name in blood (sign a contract), are way cheaper and do not treat their customers this way. LA Fitness will never have my business again and I will tell others to STAY AWAY!

Great scam
When I went to cancel my membership from LA Fitness, they asked if I wanted the other member on my account to also be removed. I stated there are no others on my account. They explained I have been build for 6 months for two members.
I would have caught this if it wasn't through an automated bill payment, and they separated the two bills by two weeks so I wouldn't see the payment go up. I should have noticed I was getting build every 2 weeks rather than once a month, so I am part to blame for their scam.
Now I can't seem to get them to quit billing me without closing down my bank account, which is what the bank recommends.
I have filed claims against them with my bank and with the Better Business Bureau. The question now is how we hold companies accountable when they intentionally scam people out of money, and illegally too. I lost 32.84 x 6 = $197.04 so far, but find it less expensive to let them have that than hire a lawyer. I think they know that, otherwise they would have add 10 people to my account.
Real good work LA Fitness, you have a great scam!

Bad reputation
Management in LA Fitness at Sprayberry, Georgia use intimidation to control and get what they want. There is a tall black guy in sales (wish I knew his name) who intimidates with his looks. He is always staring at women and hanging around with nothing to do. His looks are offensive and harassing. I have been a member of LA for more than 9 years, and to be honest have not had the best of experiences there. However, I have always looked the other way, but not this time, enough is enough! He is not good for your facilities' reputation.

Forced to hear racist rap music
The LA Fitness in Frisco, plays the exact same black rap genre every evening from 7-9. This is very inappropriate for anyone to hear, and it doesn't even come close to the demographics of the area.
I called to complain, and they said they have no control over it. Basically I was lectured about how the system plays different genres for different times.
I am a working class member. I can't change my workout hours to avoid abusive music that is geared toward one specific race. Heck, I don't mind if they play rap, but play a variety channel. That's only fair.

Place to avoid
La fitness, these people give thieves a bad name.
They are providing mid rate health club, but they ask premium dollar.
They are master at nickel and diming the customer and clients.
Staff are rude and unfriendly (at least the one in Palm Harbor FL).
They are better clubs around. Look before you join LA Fitness. Joining strongly discouraged.
My dissatisfaction with them started when I decided to add my daughter to my membership, I was told I can add her if cancel and rejoin and pay another $80.00 plus first and last month in addition to what paid to them 2 month ago. After checking my account I fund out that they charged me $3.00 extra per month for what the so call manager whom signed me quoted me.
Oh by the way, if you want to reserve a any sort of court its another $4.00 a month extra. And the list of $ here and $ there goes on.
The place does not have any idea how to run honest business model.

I joined the South Windsor LA Fitness with great optimism a few months back. As one might expect, when you first join a gym you are overly excited at the prospect of getting in shape/healthy, and tend to overlook some of the finer points. Well, here I am more than six months later, cursing myself for not being more observant when I first enrolled. While I have lost 12 pounds, I credit it to having the best Exercise Companion to help motivate me.
At this point, I am 100% certain they are going to mysteriously shut their doors one day and walk away with my deposit money. Here is what I have observed:
-> Most of the equipment is broken or in disrepair. For example, the padding on most machines is torn or worn through, making it very uncomfortable during certain exercises. Additionally, the pins used to select the weight on a number of machines are missing, so you can only do 20 pounds (the minimum weight).
-> Look at the ceiling in the atrium/lobby area. There is excessive water damage with apparent mold/fungus. I worry that people are mistakenly thinking their wheezes are from a heavy workout – when it could be from breathing toxic air.
-> The temperature in the Cardio area is exceptionally hot. As an experiment, I brought a thermometer and recorded an amazing 87 degrees. They have one fan to cool the area and it is completely encased in dust.
-> They removed most of the paper towel dispensers and alcohol solution. At one point these were conveniently located throughout the facility. Now, you would be lucky to find a towel to even clean your machine after use.
-> The music is exceptionally loud. Sometimes, it is so loud that I can’t even hear the person on the treadmill next to me.
Overall, this place just seems to be going downhill quick. It is not clear whether management is really interested in maintaining the facility. They really need to wake up and take care of their current members.

Worst gym ever
To anyone who wants to sign up for a gym, DO NOT go to LA Fitness!!! Here's why:
I was not a member of LA Fitness before this, so Dan, the employee who signed me up, told me that I needed to open an account and pay the registration fee, first and last monthly fees, along with other fees that are associated with being a member, before I was able to sign up for training sessions. Disappointed in the money I had to pay up front, to only be a gym member to use a trainer for 2 months, I paid the $300 fee, even when I told him I wasn't going to use the gym itself, only to utilize the trainer. After the membership aspect was taken care of, he proceeded to tell me about training session packages. I specifically wanted to do 1 or 2 months worth of training at LA Fitness only. Dan was well aware of this because I mentioned this numerous times during our meeting together. He told me that it'll be no problem for me to sign up for a year's worth of training and told me after 2 months, to call and cancel my account. I specifically asked him if I will have any problems cancelling my account early and if I was responsible for a cancellation payment or any other type of payment after the 2 months was up, and he confidently told me "no, everything will be taken care of then."
After the 2 months of training was up, and a couple hundred dollars later, I cancelled my LA Fitness account using the online website without any complication, assuming that my training account was linked to my membership account and that too, will also be cancelled. I was then charged another $45 the following two months after my account was already cancelled. I called LA Fitness and the woman who helped me credited my account one time, only for $45, when it should have been $90. I explained I only wanted to be a member for 2 months and I already paid up front the first and last months fees and should not be charged for 2 additional months. I tried contacting the manager numerous times, leaving my name and number to correct this situation. I was told each time that he will call me back. When I called back a couple days later, the manager, Tom, was finally available. Hetold me that I had to speak with another member of the team to get the other $45 credited back to my account, which that person is not there at the moment. I told him my frustration about this situation, but he just reiterated that I needed to speak with this person to get that credited back to myaccount.
I soon found out from LA Fitness that I was responsible to pay 50% of the remaining balance after I cancelled my training account. One important step Dan NEVER mentioned to me while I was signing up. The terms of the contract were not explained properly and I had been misled from a supposed "trained" employee. After I found this information out, I went back to speak with this employee, only to find out he does not work at LA Fitness anymore!! I called the training manager and general manager of LA Fitness numerous times, again, without any call backs. Finally, when I did get a hold of them, the only thing they were able to tell me was to call Corporate and explain my situation. This is the reason I was charged for another 2 months at $45 each time was due to the fact that mytraining account was not cancelled, even though my LA Fitness account was cancelled. I spoke with 2 or 3 different people from Corporate who claimed they were managers and were not understanding about my situation. They were all very cold and accused me of not reading my contract thoroughly and asking questions to the LA Fitness employee. They were disrespectful and just mentioned over and over again that they were able to suspend my account for a month, then, I was to pay the 50% of the remaining balance the following month-- almost $1000!! That is the only thing they were able to do for me.
NEVER did any of them say "I'm sorry this happened to you, " instead they pretty much verbally attacked me!
On top of the $300 I had to pay for becoming a member of LA Fitness--a gym I never actually used to work-out, unless I had a training session and was working with the trainer-- I had to pay another $150 for trainer registration fees. With the cash I spent, all I got was atraining log booklet!! $40 for a half-hour session for training, on top of the $150 trainer registration fee, $45 a month to continue to be a member of a gym that I rarely went to, along with the other misunderstood fees is outrageous. I really feel like I wasted my time andmoney!
Why can't a person sign up with a trainer instead of becoming a member of the gym, if they do not plan to utilize the gym any other time?
Their employee made a significant error while opening up a new account and they have the responsibility as a large, well known company to fix the situation and see that a reasonable solution can be provided.
Both the gym and training managers at the Springfield LA Fitness I went to, are incompetent and lazy and "pass the buck" to other employees when they are unaware of what to say or do. I was under the impression the LA Fitness employee who signed me up was trained and competent in his position and would offer the full facts before signing a potential customer. I would also assume the managers would help a customer and not have them call back on numerous occasions to get an answer to their question.
On top of this, I called Corporate one morning, only to be on hold for 10 minutes, when a voice message comes on and says the office is closed until 9am Pacific time. Why was I on hold for that long just to be told by an answering machine that the offices are closed???!
So, later on I called my local club to get the name and number of the district manager--thinking they would definitely have it. They had no email address or name they could give me!!!
This time, I called Corporate back later (business hours, now), to get the district manager's name and email address-- only to find that NO ONE had it!! This is Corporate that I'm calling and NO ONE has the district manager's email address??? After being transferred from person to person--someone was able to give me the email address and name----- only when I emailed my complaint letter, did it bounce back. Again, I called Corporate up again, and some gentleman heard my frustration and gave me the correct email address.
2 weeks went by and I have not heard anything yet from the district manager. I sent another email, again without a response. This is the district manager we're talking about here--shouldn't he be checking his emails frequently??? So, while I was on vacation I had to call Corporate yet again because I have been back and forth with a billion people for over a month about this situation, to complain to that "manager" about the situation and mentioned the district manager has not contacted me back. Surprisingly, after I brought up the word "lawyer" and "writing to magazines and newspapers" about my ordeal, the very next day I got a call and email from the district manager. He said he never got my 2 other emails... (yeah right). He too was very cold and not understanding. The whole 45 minute long phone call, I was pretty much defending myself.
Overall, things went my way after I mentioned writing to local newspapers and magazines.

Scam
They always mislead people when signing up, as well as cancellation won't be through unless you email in the cancellation form. they continued charging and charging not including the fact that we also have to pay first and last month membership. what kind of service is that? and when we called to let them know that we have cancelled everything last month, they said that "they will be able to refund the money" which is a lie as well. Don't sign up at LA fitness, you'll be very very very disappointed. The operator are also always clueless!
