I went to the Dentist that was assigned to me by my dental health insurance. This was my very first time at this office. The companies name is “La Jolla Town site Family Dentistry. When I got there, the receptionist asked me to fill out the form about my health information (I am 7 months pregnant). Then, when I finished, she asked to sign a paper and pay the amount of $ 138. 00 (co-pay $4, prescription drugs $ 128, and periodontics cleaning $ 6). I asked the receptionist why it was so much. She turned around and asked the Doctor. The doctor said, that is what you were diagnosed for and that is the type of cleaning you require. He said, there are 3 types of cleaning. I told him I am pregnant and I cannot take certain drugs. Well, he said "you need that cleaning especially if you are pregnant". I said, wait a minute, how can you have diagnosed what I need if you have never seen me before? Then, he said, I am taking into account that my other Doctor has seen already seen you. It then started a 15 minutes argument with the doctor that I cannot have any drugs whatsoever without my OGBYN doctor explicit permission (difficult 3rd trimester). The receptionist had not told the Doctor that this was my first visit. She also assumed that I'd been there before, since I was assigned to there facility. And basically the doctor and the receptionist assumed that I had been there before and someone just made up whatever they wanted for the money, irregardless of my condition and the risk it might have to me or my unborn child.. If I did not ask question, I would have to pay an extra $138.00 dollars, as well as putting me on drugs. I consulted my doctor and he told me that there could have been some risk to the baby. The Dentist told me that I don't have a choice; otherwise I need to find another dental office. He quoted “We are the best dentist in town".
Finally after the 15 minute’s heated discussion and repeating myself over and over again the doctor finally listened and realized that was my first visit. So, they took me in for the teeth cleaning I originally had requested; however, he was extremely arrogant and continued to make bad comments about my previous dentist. He even went as far as saying that I had been to Mexico for my dentist and he was the best no one compares.
This man’s arrogance and conceded position could have caused complication in my pregnancy or worse. I will never go there again and recommend you investigate their practices in depth as they are a risk to anyone who doesn’t stand up against or question what procedures are being performed on them.
