In December, 2009, I had received a collection notice from this law firm for $766 for a credit card issued by a bank I had never heard of, nor had I ever owned that credit card. In calling their 800 number, I was transferred to a call center in India where the rep could barely speak English, and what little he did, was very rude. Upon asking for verification of the account information, he confirmed my name & address, but the SSN used to open the account was not mine. When I told him it was not my social, he said the file would be closed and quickly hung up on me.
I immediately checked my credit report to make sure this bad debt was not on my credit history, and it did not appear.
However, I received a harassing phone call from this law firm as well as another collection notice in February, 2010. I again called the law firm at the local Chicago number provided and spoke with Dimple. After again verifying the account information was my name & address, Dimple also told me the birthdate used to open the account which was my accurate birthdate, but again, the SSN was not mine. She again told me that the case would be closed since it was not my SSN and after I said this must be a case of identity theft.
I immediately then filed a police report for identity theft with my local jurisdiction, and also intend to file a complaint with the FTC against this law firm.
