I would go as far as to say Alamo LAX are criminals!
Do not rent from them!
We did book a SUV, Ford Escape or similar, this car comes whith a 2.5 or 3.0 liter engine and we had made good research about this car being perfect for us..
As we were picking our car up at Alamo, at midnight after almost 24h traveling, they say, we will only get a car whith a 1.4 to 2.0 liter engine and this will not work in the hot climate . They say we need at least a 2.5L (as we payed for) they also said we had to uppgrade to a bigger suv for an aditional $300-350 if We want to be able to use the car. This is a huge rip of and to that the gas milage is much worse on this SUV! In total this would set us back about $700 in our three weeks, inkluding upgrade fee, aditional fees, taxes and incresed fuel cost!
Despite our protests the guy would not cave in and left us whith the choice of getting a much worse car than we paied for or get a car we could not use.
Scams about insurances and trying to convince people to uppgrade is common but this is pure fraud.
After contacting Alamo the next day We had no problem exchanging our SUV to exactly the model we had booked and paid for at Alamo San Diego. The guy in San Diego said it was redicoulous and he could hardly belive the story from LAX. This is not a one time event as we after returning home read in another forum about anoyher Swede having ben subjected to the exact same fraud.
