Failure to refund on their guarantee
This place is a complete joke. The owner Mika is probably one of the rudest people I have ever come in contact with. DONT bother calling corporate either...they are about as worthless as can be when it comes to your issue. They just re-route you back to the rude manager you already dealt with.

I was scheduled for an appointment...cancelled two hours before after I rearranged my schedule to make it.

The boss will not even call me back to this point (MIKA) she has her employees do the work for her.

Complete joke- DO NOT GO HERE

Non-Payment of Wages
I worked approximately three weeks in January 2011 at the Liberty Tax located on 2538 Candler Road in Decatur, Ga 30032. I never received waged for my services performed. The individual that hired me assured me that he would pay me. However, when I contact this individual regarding paying the wages he owes me he gives me the run-around or refused to accept or return my calls.

Non payment of wages Falsifying information
I worked for Rowan Hoose at the Liberty Tax off of Camden Ave in San Jose and I will tell you this if you are ever offered to work for this man RUN!!! He is a Liar and a Cheat!!! Not only did he not pay my full wages due to me but he also lies to his clients about their tax returns as well as lie to his corporate office about the money he is or is not charging for his serivces. When I went in to get my pay this man had the audacity to take $350 from my pay to supposedly have the locks re-keyed and new keys made for the employees even after I gave him his keys back. I was told by the labor board that this is illegal and he can not do that under any circumstances. He is even trying to tell others that work for him lies about me that I tried to sleep in his office. This is so far beyond from the truth that its not funny. I have not ever tried to sleep in his office and I have proof that I have been sleeping in hotels/motels for quite some time. I also have a witness who can tell you that I wasnt trying to sleep there just went online to find a cheap hotel to stay at since I had gotten help from my church to do so. I a disabled homeless mother of three and he took advantage of this because he knew that I was starting to question his policies regarding his supposed free returns. I have stayed on numerous occasions at the office late (after hours) to either go online to look for a place to stay or live as well as come in on my days off to do this or to help out when needed. Now because I am questioning him on his work ethics it has becaome a problem. He just doesnt want the truth to be known about what it is that he is really doing. This man is an A**hole who has no compassion for people and is so self absorded that it will make you cry. He charges people to do their taxes returns and then lies to his corporate office and tells them that he has done certain tax returns for free when he has not. He will charge the clients in either cash or check and rather than reproting this to corporate he says that it was done as a free return so that he may then pocket the money he is getting for these returns. NEVER EVER go to this man to have your taxes done. All he cares about is being able to take his yearly trip to Hawaii with his girlfriend. He cant even pay his employees on time and complains about the amount of money he is giving them which is just above minimum wage and not worth the hassle you have to go through to get it.

Incompetent and over charged!
I was charged $400 for doing their job.
In past years I have always done my own taxes but was urged by my fiancé to have them done at this location this year since we bought a home and the situation was a little more complicated. He's had his taxes done at this office the last 3 or 4 years and really trusted the previous owner and his wife. He thought of them to be very knowledgeable about all of the different tax laws. When we walked in we were very surprised to see a whole new staff and were told that he no longer owns that location.
When the question came up about claiming the 1st time home buyers tax credit, the owner advised us that we could split it between the two of us. I informed him that since we had bought the house from my fiance's that he would not be allowed to claim it since I had discovered from my own research that one of the rules is you can't buy from a relative. The owner insisted to me that he had done a lot of reading up on all of the rules for claiming the credit and you hadn't seen anything stating that. I had him pull up the IRS.gov website on his computer and pointed out to him exactly where it was stated. Had my fiance and I split the credit like he advised, we would have been in serious trouble. Since my fiance and his father have the same first and last name, it surely would have been a red flag to the IRS and we would have had to find a way to pay that money back. The owner of the business claims to be an experienced professional yet someone with very little knowledge on the subject had to point this out to you...and then charge me $400 and my fiance another $150 just for the EZ form!!
over charged
We went to Liberty Tax last year to file our federal taxes. We almost fell on the floor when they presented us with a bill of $486.00 for a return that only took a few hours to prepare! They never disclosed prices up front. Naturally had they done that, we would have run like the wind! We went to our regular tax accountant this year and only paid $150. to have all of the same forms filled out. Our accountant was stunned at what we were charged by Liberty. Furthermore, we have discovered errors by Liberty that will cause us to have to have the return they prepared amended. STAY AWAY FROM LIBERTY TAX

Not paid last check
I worked for Toni and Sherri as a tax preparer for two days and after seeing the way they ran their buisness decided not to got back. The reason being was that I am an accounting major with a goal of receiving my CPA and I did not want to be involved in coaching people on how to cheat the goverment. I was not ready to jeopordize my future or cheat the goverment by coaching people on how to file schedule C in order for them receive a bigger return and the franchise to collect more revenue for providing that service. I was never paid for my two days and feel that something needs to be done about both issues, its not just the money its the principal behind it.

Awful service
I am writing to get a resolution to the serious injustice my husband and I have encountered, at the Aberdeen SD. store. Owned by Terry Narum of Sioux Falls SD.

January 2009, we chose Liberty Tax for filing our 2008 taxes. During this preparation I noticed that I had forgotten, my Wyndham Hotels W-2. Sense we lived only a few blocks away, I drove home and got it. When arriving back, I handed papers to the tax preparer. After being there for almost Two hours, we where thrilled to be getting a return of $5391.00, the most we had ever gotten back, we where so happy we wanted to sign and get our money.

January 2010, I received a letter from the IRS stating that we did not summit $10, 910.00 worth of taxable income. IRS states we owed $2187.00 for this error. Confused I called Liberty Tax 605-626-1040, phone being answered by a message that they are open on Wednesdays; I left a message with my concerns and ask for a return call. That week went by with no call back.

January 13th, I called again and made an appointment for the 14th @ 3:00pm, reinstating my concerns.

I took with me the same papers; I had received from the preparer in 2009.

Rose was sitting at her desk as I sat down; she took a folder from her desk drawer, which was mine. I gave Rose the letters from IRS, after about Five minutes I explained to her how to read them. Rose, then informed me that my W-2 from Wyndham Hotels was not in there file. I handed her my file and she went threw it, stating the something. I became upset and asked what Liberty was going to do to help me correct this, at that time Rose offered to pay penalties and interest, I told her that was not enough. Rose asked how I knew I gave all W-2's to preparer, told of having to go home and get them, coming back and handing them to him. At that time she said person that did ours work on Monday the 18th, she would talk to him and call me. Still very upset I said like the call back I got last week, after leaving a message. Rose at the time told me that not all calls get heard, which only added more anger toward Liberty Tax. I told Rose at that time I would protest in front of store if I could not get the help that was needed to correct this. I asked for a guaranteed call, was told yes on Monday the 18th.

The meeting lasted about 20 minutes. So frustrated when I got home, I went threw my papers in the folder and found the missing W-2, which she had over looked, I have to wonder on purpose.

Thinking I would just give up and go away.

I never got that call either on the 18th.

I call Liberty Tax on, January 20th, was told they were going to do nothing sense I signed papers, all this was my fault, reinstated that I would start at 4:00pm and end at 5:30pm for the next Five days, with protesting. I, was told that I better not do that, I ended call.

At 3:45pm I received a phone call from Terry Narum, asking about my protest. Terry telling me that I signed papers and that there is nothing they will do to help, also that he would have his Lawyer after me. I asked are you threatening me, was told it would be a fact. I stated the 1st Amendment, and told of talking to all the local authorities on my rights, Captain Dave McNeil, from sheriffs office, saying that I was well within my rights to be on the sidewalk, which is city property. At that time Mr. Nanum said "look little missy you better watch your self ". I asked Mr. Nabum never to call me that. I ended call, feeling that I was being threatened and he was trying to scare me.

Arriving at 4:00pm, we set up and held our signs proud.

Being there only Fifteen minutes a Liberty employee came and asked us to leave, I politely said no. Few moments later a Police Officer arrived with KSFY news reporter. The Officer went into store and reporter started filming, Officer came out and spoke with us, telling us that we had every right to be there and left.

During that hour and half Seven cars stopped and asked us what was going on, we told our story and they told theirs, of the dealings they had with Liberty Tax. Not good ones. Those persons also stated that, if it where not so cold out, they would be right with us. Jay and I had our picture taken by at least twenty different people. Aberdeen News Paper also did interview.

January, 21st our second day, was just as eventful, persons taking pictures and honking, waving, giving us thumbs ups.

KSFY stopped and finished interview, which aired at 10:00pm on the 22nd.

Mr. Hewitt, we are asking that you correct this with the IRS. Jay and I are very humble people, that don't have a lot. We really needed our refund this year to buy groceries, diapers, pay our huge heat bill. The IRS has taken our whole refund.
