Several years ago I purchased a male pup from Gina Alford. As soon as the pup arrived, I realized he was lacking in any socialization and displayed unusual agression and fear at the age of 9 weeks. I paid $1400.00 for said pup and, when I called to complain about his personality, she accused me of being a bad home and she told me she knew I would be trouble? She had been sending me regular e-mails with photos of another male pup and, the day before we were to leave to pick that pup up at the airport in Salt Lake City, she told me she received a check and had to honor it so she sold the pup she was sending me photos of for at least a month. She then offered me another male and, although I should have declined, we were so excited about the prospect of a new 'show' dog that I accepted the change with great reluctance. Well, after many months of love and attention, we were able to help this pup and he is now in a loving home and well cared for but still displays unusual temperment for the breed and is way oversized at about 11 pounds...the show males average 5 to 6 pounds. I knew if he went back to her, he would probably end up in an awful puppy mill type setting and could not in good faith send the pup back and refused to take a replacement because a friend in CA told me about all the lawsuits against her by different people who bought pups from her. I am too ethical and did not want her kennel name on another dog owned by me so I lost my $1400.00 and considered it an expensive life lesson in trust. She had also sold a bitch pup for a show dog to my good friend and that bitch has alopecia X, had hip replacement, has loose patellas and now has epilepsy and she has never received a replacement and that bitch must be 5 years old by now. I kept all my e-mails from this woman and have a stack of e-mails about an inch thick. I have spoken to other breeders concerning her and have heard much worse stories than what I went through. I now have some beautiful Poms as I learned my lesson and went with more reputable breeders who know of my long record as a dog breeder and handler of a BIS winning Keeshonds and the top stud dog in the U.S. for 3 consecutive years and I have been showing quality dogs since the mid 1970's. I have spoken to at least 4 people concerning this woman and her practices. She will not allow anyone to go to her home and see her kennel. We offered to drive our RV to pick up this pup and she declined and she told a friend ABSOLUTELY NO when he planned to fly in to buy more than one dog from her. She told him she would ONLY meet him with the pups at the airport (New Orleans) which is NOT close to her. He was one of the smart ones and declined buying anything from her. I heard from one breeder that her kennel house is in awful condition with cockroaches running through the puppy food and what he told me made me sick. The man who told me about the conditions tried to report her to every organization he could but, unfortunately, MS is one a the few states with no regulations on what this woman does...very sad.
