After buying a certified Jetta from Linden Volkswagon, I thought it would be a good idea to trade in my wifes car and help her get another one. I thought wrong. The first visit was simple, we asked where we were at and I was told that:
A) My credit was fine for "even a new car"
B) Having 2 cars would NOT effect VW Credit from accepting the new loan
C) I would NOT have to put anything down
This being said, my wife was upsidedown on her loan by a few thousand dollars. What banks normally do is allow for a certain percentage over what a customer is paying on a car for a loan to allow for rolling the debt over into the new loan. We were over this ammount. After visiting another dealer though, we got the idea that a higher value car might be an option in that we would gain more allowance in the larger loan. After returning to Linden VW, we presented this and asked questions anyone would in order to do a deal like this. The best option we came up with was a lease for a 2012 cc. This, we were told, would be ok because of dealer insentives that could be added in and that the loan ammount would be acceptable for us in terms of what we wanted to pay each month. We drove off the lot in a new CC without finalizing the deal as VW Credit was closed by the time we got to that point.
We came back and were told that we needed a cosigner (point A was a complete lie). How can this be we asked? Oh well, it's because of his other car, VW Credit isn't able to increase his credit line much at this time (part B was a complete lie). So we brought in a consigner. This lady had cosigned on my wifes original vehicle and was prepared to do it again, but at this point she wanted to know why that loan hadn't been payed off (since chase was calling every day since we went because we thought the car would be sold and chase decided it wanted the interest for that month but that's a whole other story) the finance manager was rude and the GM and our sales agent did nothing to difuse the situation. We lost this person as a cosigner probably forever. I went in and was very upset and got apologies and asskissing. I said they needed to "make this deal work" and that it was "unacceptable for them to lead me on and then not deliver" and mentioned that "if I absolutely had to, I would sell my car but they had better be giving me the deal of the century on it". This was now two weeks after the first night we got the CC. I was then told that they could offer me a deal for either 6k down (lie number 3!) or I could trade my car in. I didn't exactly like either option so I found them another cosigner.
We then went through the ordeal of them telling me that even with someone with a credit score over 800 and making 90k+ a year (who had only his car as a loan) that we weren't approved. The new deals were sell my car to them as well (for 9 grand and not the 12800 that it was worth) and that our monthly payment would be over $550! Over a month later we had very litte options as they'd start charging us for making a new car a used car (something the GM told me would not be the case "you're not liable for anything on the car except damage, nothing like putting miles on will be charged to you", lie number 4). We completed all the paperwork and they even had my wife sign the lease agreement on the side of it as if adding a 3rd person on the lease would do anything! Fortunately, the cosigner we had wasn't available that day and when we took it to him he said he can't be the primary and that we had to have it changed.
Now almost 2 months later, we are told that the finance manager we were working with had been fired and that our deal was the reason! I went to the Certified PreOwned manager (the man that I worked with for the Jetta) and practically begged him to help me. He did... in a manner of speaking. He would buy my car and my wifes, then sell me back mine (at 4, 000 dollars more and higher interest) and then we'd be able to get he lease with a paymen around 350. The only problem is that I also had to put down $3000 still! It was not the best deal but It was all we had. I'm sure they made out well but I feel used and taken advantage of. It would have been much easier to just tell me the first day that those things might be a problem.
Also, to top it all off, I got a flat tire, two of them. After being told that the wheels were covered for 2 years free with a package we would get with both purchases, it now comes to light that these were 500 dollar add ons and that they were now removed after this new deal. Just another kick in the pants to top it all off. I really do hope this is the end of it.
SYNOPSIS (I know everyone doesn't like to read walls of txt):
1) Went to dealer I used before
2) Dealer lied to me and did all they could to take me for everything they could.
3) The deal I got was not very good and really put me in the same situation I was before.
4) I would not go back to this dealer.
I thought going to a Specific Dealer and not some used car guy would help me avoid the sleasy used car salesman that is going to take as much of your money as possible. I was wrong.
