So I was looking for an online telephone company so I can choose my area code & city I wasnted the line to be under since my daughter was attending college in Faribault, MN. I wanted her to be able to call from her dorm & it not be long distance on her calling card. I contacted Lingo & they said "no problem", I said "I need to know the telephone number before I sign a contract, because i want to know for sure if it is the right area code & prefix" They said "we can't give you the number until we send you the router & set up the service" so I agreed reluctantly. The router came & I called them & said I am readyt o set up tthe service. they said "just go to our website & pick a number". So I did. Low & behold someone else already had that number. I come to find out that number was the only Faribault, MN # hey had too & could not provide me with one. I then said " I do not want to use your service" they said "well you agreed to a one year contract" I said, "no I didn't". They continued to bill me, then I was contacted by a man named Joe 516-960-5612 who claimed to be a Lingo Rep in collections & was willing to cut the bill in half if I was willing ot pay now. I asked "pay for what"? he said I was using their service up until November. I had been using Vonage for 6 months not Lingo & new this to be a lie. I then sent him the following email:
Dear Joe,
These calls are obviously solicitation calls or wrong numbers (Somalia?? & Bermuda?? really??) Or I believe they may have been made up by your company to collect unwaranted monies from me. I have not used Lingo in several months & did not even have your router hooked up. I think certain people would be interested in the scam your company is trying to run on me. I will be contacting Lori Swanson at the MN Attorney General's offfice, The FCC & The BBB on this matter.
Thank you for your time,
Davina St.James
he called me 5 minutes later & agreed to cancel my account with no charge
