I have notice that there are many complaints about dog breeders, or puppy websites. Have any of you considered adopting from a local shelter? Thousands of healthy loving animals are euthanize d daily because of overpopulation, the problems with the economy, and ignorant pet owners that cannot/will not take proper care of their animals.
Many of these animals are pure breeds, or even mutts. If you rescue an animal from a shelter you will have earned their love and devotion for life. Many of the adult dogs are already trained, and potty trained. I never understood why it was so important to some people to have a full bred puppy or to have a puppy. Puppies are like having children. They whine during the night, chew up furniture, though adorable, cause a lot of destruction. It takes huge amounts of time to train puppies, and they need lots of attention. Their vet bill in the first year for shots and diseases, are usually quite costly.
Go to your local shelter or rescue and find a loving dog that can be your forever companion. Give a dog or a cat a new lease on life. You will feel good because in many cases, you have saved that dog's life, literally. Shelter animals will give you back in love, friendship, and their devotion for their entire life.
All of my animals are from local animal shelters. The last kitten I adopted was very neglected. She was skinny, underweight, and had a upper respiratory infection. After feeding her a high quality cat food, treating her aliments. She is a new cat. Her coat was dull and coarse when my family adopted her. Now, a year later, her coat is like silk, she is at a healthy weight, and is very loving friendly cat. If I hadn't adopted her, with how unhealthy she looked, she probably would have been euthanize d, or given to a scientific company. I found out that our local shelter has a contract with a local scientific animal testing company. This agency might not euthanize as many animals as other animal control agencies, but the animals fate is still as grim.
I urge if any animal lovers read this, you will consider adopting form a rescue or a animal shelter. It is a very unselfish, loving thing to do for a homeless animal. Many have kennel cough, URI infections, because of the vast amount of animals it's cohabiting with. Usually shelter vets will give you needed medication, and treat animals that are sick because of the shelter environment. Make some animal's dream of a loving family a reality.
