mocking of children's medical issues.
My son went to the school nurse and complained of a stomach ache. The nurse called my wife and she told the nurse she would pick him up. While in the school office signing him out, the nurse walked in and said to the janitor and assistant vice principal that "it must be nice to have your mommy over-ride what the nurse said and come pick him up for a tummy ache". The janitor replied in a childish mocking voice " Mommy...come pick me up, my tummy hurts... mommy..." The vice principal said or did nothing to stop this... Also, they had no idea that my wife was in the office with my child. My wife immediately took my son out of the office and called the school. When the nurse was talked to about this she lied and said that it wasn’t them she was talking of. She later confessed. This is a clear and direct violation of state and federal laws protecting confidentiality regarding educational records and medical information. There are also state nursing laws that require the nurse to safeguard a patients dignity, confidentiality, and medical information. Such as the FERPA Act and HIPPA Act. Also, the student shall be protected from psychological abuse. A formal complaint was made to the school and the best I can get was an attitude from the vice principal and the principal and vice superintendant telling me that I would not be privileged to the disposition of the grievance that I have filed. This is also a violation the school board policy 248. Telling me that I am not allowed to know the disposition of the grievance. How else will I be satisfied that this issue is rectified? I am worried about the metal state of the janitor. The next day he entered the gym where my son was playing a sport and stared at him and left. That makes me uncomfortable and realize that this 60ish year old man is doing this to a child. Also, my children and possibly others are now afraid to go to the nurse for fear of repercussions... This is inexcusable behavior and cant be stood for in our educational systems. This is just the tip of the iceberg. I am finding out through other parents and my wife that this is standard for the school. Kids get talked down to and at times sworn at. These people cant be protected any longer by our board of education. The vice principal himself disclosed discipline information personally to my wife. So that is a direct violation of the FERPA Act. I am asking you to join me in fighting the school boards and stop allowing this to happen.. Our schools almost seem corrupt. That these teachers and staff are this comfortable doing this in the main office of our school, in front of the vice principal, and the office of the principal is absurd. I am considering legal intervention and have filed a formal complaint as well as a complaint to the state board of nursing. I am getting the runaround from the school leadership.. We'll see Please help!!! There are many more facts and hope we can share some ideas...
