Scam
I just found out today that the refund for gas the we had in our tank is "0". I was told that when they read the tank we only had $36.90 credit coming and that there was a $55.00 charge for reading the tank. They were so kind as to just call it "even". My problem is, the tank is a 200 pound tank, using the formula that 4.24 pounds of LP gas equals one gallon, I figure the tank holds a little over 47 gallons. Adjusting the capacity of the tank to 80% that would be around 37.5-38.0 gallons. The house has been empty since May 2009 and in August 2009 the tank was topped off by Suburban. At that time it cost me $4.88 a gallon to do that. Taking all of this into consideration I have a hard time figuring out how we had no money coming back, unless they charge $4.88 to put gas in and pay less than a dollar to buy it back. Does anyone have an thoughts on this? I almost forgot to mention, I called Suburban on Nov. 4, 2009 and asked to have our account closed. It took them weeks to go out and read the gauge, all the while someone else had moved in.

Billing
If you have Suburban Propane now for you LP Gas, "RUN, RUN, RUN" as fast as you can. We have had dealings with them in New York ever since they bought out a local dealer (32 years) and Florida ( for 3 years) and they are just the same in one state as the other. No one regulates them, no one cares that the consumer is at their mercy. The price that they charge to fill the tank and the price they pay you back when you terminate service, is as far apart as the Sun and the Moon. You are better off if you never sign a contract for service with them. If you have already be prepared to lose big time. If I can save one family from being taken, I will be happy. If I can save many I will be over-joyed.
