Macy's Reviews

Missed Phone Interview
I was supposed to have a phone interview today with one of your HR recruiters. I've been by my phone for more than an hour. Nobody ever called me. Who do I complain to?

Don't ever work here
Okay now where do I begin. Macy's is one of the worst places to work at for several reasons:

1. THEY CHANGE YOUR SCHEDULE WITHOUT TELLING YOU

2. THEY LIE ABOUT FITTING YOUR SCHOOL SCHEDULE!! They expect you to live your life for Macy's

3. They treat the employees poorly and unless you open up 2-3 Macy's cards and make your sales goals every week, it's like you don't exist. Managers will hound you when you don't meet your credit goals but they fail to realized that our economy is bad and people aren't opening credit cards or shopping very much. Also the managers don't know shit about the products so how are we supposed to help the customers.

4. The store is always shortstaffed which can cause a bit of stress on the employees as well as the customers. I can't tell you how many times customers have been mad because there wasn't an associate available. Not only that but sometimes people call out a lot so sometimes people from other depts have to help out in different areas, and sometimes leaving 1 person working in a big area alone .I don't understand why in almost 4 years of working there, there has never been enough people. Also how can we deter theft without enough associates on the floor?

5.The managers almost never have a right answer to help the customers which can be very annoying.

6. Some of the employees steal your customers and if you work in a commission area (shoes, fine jewelry, cosmetics) that can be a real pain in the ass. If you ever go the Coach handbag section there's some old ladies there that will hover and hound you to buy the expensive items in the area. HOW ANNOYING IS THAT!! People do not want to be smothered for any reason but they don't understand that

7. A lot of the customers are very rude and extremely cheap

8. The return policy sucks. Customers can return stuff within 6 months with a reciept which is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too lenient because some customers bring things back after 5 months and it's messed up and stuff.

WORD TO THE WISE NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER WORK AT MACY'S YOU WILL REGRET IT.

They just don't care
There's a reason why it seems like Macy's is always hiring... once you get in, you're dying to get out. I've worked there once and have had two interviews since then, so let's just talk about the interview first.

Whatever you apply for, won't be the position they interview you for. I applied for a sales associate, they try to make me become a beauty adviser. I apply for day full time position, they try to convince me to work a nights part time position. It seems a little fishy to me that every time you go in for an interview for whatever you applied for that they try to convince you into doing something else. I truly believe that they post those job openings just to get people to come in so they can try to persuade them into crappy jobs. If you say no, you'll then soon get an email saying you weren't a right fit for the job you applied for, even though you are, they just wanted you to work something else.

When you do work there they'll throw you out on the floor all alone to cover a few areas, even if you didn't have full training yet. They won't tell you what to do, they'll just leave you to fend for yourself. I remember my first day I was left to cover three areas alone. I was terrified, I didn't know what to do! I thought I was doing well until finally a supervisor came over to me and gave me crap for not cleaning out all the fitting rooms every 45 minutes. I didn't even know!

Just how at another Macy's store I went into one day, they had a huge sale in shoes and the girl working in the shoes all by herself was having a hard time. She kept apologizing to everyone saying it's her first day and she hasn't had all of her training yet. Her supervisor came over to her and yelled that she wasn't working fast enough.

Their biggest concern is how many credit accounts you can get open. If you don't get so many a week they'll give you complete crap for it. You can't force people to open accounts, especially at this time when our economy isn't doing so well!

When I was working there I either had to get a ride home or take a few buses. I worked at the Macy's farthest from me, and just about everyday they would ask me to work late if I wasn't already working a full shift. When I told them no for obvious reasons, they would get really upset with me.

The co-workers are one extreme to another at each store. You will work with some very nice people, and then you will work with the people who hog the register so they will reach their sales goal, while you won't be able to get to half of yours.

To be honest, Macy's Inc. doesn't really give a damn about their employees. You're just another number to them (really, you get a number.) You get in there and the only thing they care about is how many credit accounts you open and how high your sales goal is. I understand it's a business, and you have to really work, but there's no reason to treat employees poorly.

It all looks good from the outside when you're just starting. They'll tell you about this great program they have if you ever have a problem, and how you can earn "Macy Money, " but really it's not worth it. Unless you want a retail job that you're miserable at, and have to work like a dog for peanuts, then find anywhere else to go.

$2.00 charge
I received my Bill and had a $2.00 charge for revolving credit. My April bill was received by me on 4/4, I paid the bill on 4/19, they didn't credit my account until 4/26. When I called they said they are allowed to charge $2.00 fee for payment not received by 4/15 - the bill wasn't due until 4/26. It's a scam. I canceled my Macy's account and will no longer purchase anything from them.

Poor customer relations
Obviousy in today's world where finances are a big concern, Macy's has no regard for consumers that are trying to do the right thing and not purchase items on credit unless they can afford them. I have had a Macy's card since 2007. When the economy tanked I chose not to use my credit card and worked to pay my card off. This Christmas I went shopping in Macy's. I had not used my Macy's credit card in 3 months. When I tried to pay with my credit card I was declined. I called the customer service department while in the store and was told my credit limit had been decreased due to lack of activity on my account. So I sent a complaint to the credit department and of course no response. Today I went shopping at Macy's. Again I tried to buy merchandise and again the card was declined. I called the customer service line to see if they had decreased my limit again because I had not used it since I tried to use it in December. I asked the customer service rep to tell me what my credit limit was but she said she wasn't allowed to give that information even though I gave her all necessary information to prove my identity. She told me I could give her an estimate of what I was going to purchase and she could tell me if the purchase would be approved. I ended up purchasing the items on my Visa card. However, after serious consideration I'm going to return the purchase and will no longer shop with Macy's.

cannot use a gift card
I was given a gift card for a birthday present. Called the number on the back of it and placed an order for a women's top. Spoke with an individual by the name of Amy, took my order, told me what my balance would be on the gift card and I would have more order within 7-10 days. My order did not come, called the number today, was told I needed to call the store closest to my zip code. Called the store, they had want I wanted took my information so they could ship it to me and then I was informed they could not do a gift card over the phone, they would need to scan. If I was close to the store I would have gone in and used it. I am not. I am upset because I do not get to Colonie Center NY, maybe once a year, and was told by two or three different Macy employees "no problem". WRONG. Macy's need to make sure employess know what they are talking about. Finally spoke with someone that knew card could not be used over the phone. Riduculous.

credit card limits
I just found out that in March, 2011, Macys changed their practices for using credit cards. They have a "new business practice" according to the phone representative I contacted to find out my available balance. They now have a "flexible" limit, and whenever you try to use it a "request" is made to see if you can charge this amount. I requested a fairly small amount and was told I couldn't charge that amount. I explained what my limit had been and was told that was not the case anymore, and that she was sorry. I asked what criteria was used to determine this amount and was told they were not making a credit bureau check. I again asked what criteria was used and was told it was based on payment history, etc. So when I explained mine should be good, she again apologized and couldn't really explain what determines this limit. Therefore, I think people should start complaining to higher than the phone reps to see what's going on. I have never heard of this by any other store.

stolen card(no statement up dates)
I went to use my macy's card and noticed it was gone. I then went down to the macy's store to find out my balance and get a new card.At that time i was informed that my spend limit was razed. I didnt receive not one notice or statement from macy's stating my activity, spend limit increase or any kind of alert to the suspicous use.

Opened Credit Cards without my permission
I made some purchases from the Macy's store in January this year. They had some promotion going, and offered me to become a member to get a discount on my whole purchase. I said I don't want to open a card with them, to which they replied that it's not necessary. I paid for the items with my credit card and left. After three months I got contacted by their collector department that was demanding a payment. Only after minutes into the conversation I realized that he wanted me to pay the amount I already paid again plus a late fee. From his words I opened TWO cards with Macy's and one card has a balance on it I did not pay.

I have been fighting ever since, they had illegally opened the credit cards without my permission and harassing me every day for not paying and threated me for reporting it to credit agency. I have disputed it several time and asked them to show me the proof or signed copy of my receipts
that i have asked to open them the cards and paid it using the store card. But ever after 5 months I have no reply from them.
