Warranty Scam
10/14/10
My Wife and I purchased a sofa and Love-seat in 2007 from Macy's furniture in Schaumburg, Chicago. We were told by the sales person Evelyn Chua that the extended warranty we purchased would cover all pen/pencil/marker stains & tears etc. So we paid for the extended warranty and was given the impression that the 7 year warranty would cover everything. We were told that if the salesperson was in our place she would buy the extended warranty. We were not told of any other limitations that the warranty would be void under else we would not have purchased it if we knew that multi-colored stains are not covered. Now after 3 years when 7-8 days ago, my 2 year old got hold of some markers and pens and scribbled over the sofa and love-seat and when we called macy's customer service who forwarded us to worry-no-more/Uniters, they denied our claim saying multi-colored marks are not covered under the warranty. They told us that the terms and conditions document mentioned not covering multi-colored stains. The terms and conditions document was not given to us not along with the sales receipt but at the end of the transaction inside a box what the salesperson casually said was a complimentary kit which we really did not need for 3 years and not that it contained important information about the terms and conditions. On calling Uniters, they made it as difficult as possible for us to register the complaint. We were given the run-around between Uniters customer service and their supervisors. Macy's washed their hands off the whole issue saying the matter is between me and Uniters when in fact we not not told that the extended warranty was from a third party at the time of purchasing it. We were made to run from pillar to post between macy's and Uniters. I feel like, macy's and Uniters have through smooth sales talk sold us something that has caused us extreme inconvenience and financial loss. When I went online to post a complaint I saw many similar stories against Uniters and Macy's push to sell these warranties without appropriately informing customers.

Belgique cookware "Don't get Burned"
Twenty some years ago I got a set of Belgique cookware for my wedding. Recently I thought I'd treat myself to a new set because my old set, though still working, had gotten a little beaten up over the years. Big Mistake! In the 9 months I've owned the new set, one pot got little rust spots on the inside and. The handles get extremely hot to the touch when cooking. Also, when cooking, steaming water (I assume from the dishwasher) where the rubber meets the metal, can burn you. My Doughtier was seriously burned, and she was using a dry over mite, I bought another pot at a different time to supplement my set and it also developed rust spots on the inside. I have never been so dissatisfied with any product! Plus this is very dangerous.

credit card company change
Macy's changed my credit card with them from a VISA to American Express without my request. When I tried to email a complaint about this through their website, there is no customer service email beyond purchases, store experiences and credit card services. Apparently, there is not much interest intaking care of customers if you aren't buying something at the moment.

Discrimination
Macy's has discriminated against me regarding a medical condition that I have.
On May 29, 2010, around 8:15 pm, I decided to take a visit at the Town East Mall location to purchase my wife some fragrance on a special evening. This women by the name of Tedra who worked in the fragrance department, attempted to assist me. There was also another woman beside her which she decided to leave shortly after. Tedra advised me that she didn't have the type of fragrance I was looking for. As I was walking out towards the mall searching for another store, she asked me, what is that in the back of your neck? I replied to her, What do you mean? She rudely stated, It looks like wing worms on your neck and it looks bad. For a women that I have never met or known, to embarrass and disrespect my medical condition made me feel very degrading as a man. I decided to go back into the store and find out her name and spoke with a manager regarding this issue. Joy Black was the manger that assisted me in taking down my information and advising me that this complaint would forwarded to the store manager. Macy's refused to resolve this matter and accommodate me for mental stress, time loss from home and work.

Ashley Hall was very unhelpful and rude and claimed that she could do nothing since the 180 days had passed
I had bought a Ralph Lauren sweater from Macy's at Woodfiled Mall in Schaumburg, IL more than a 180 days ago but hadn't used it till recently. When I washed it according to the label instructions, the brown color bled onto the white and ruined the sweater. When I took it back to the store the manager, Ashley Hall was very unhelpful and rude and claimed that she could do nothing since the 180 days had passed. Now, I understand the 180 day policy for returning goods, but it was clear that Macy's had sold a poor quality product from a major brand such as Ralph Lauren and that they could clearly take up the matter with RL. However, she was very rude and made no effort to help me.

Check Authorization policy
I have shopped at Macy's for many years & was surprised that on 6/4/10 after making a purchase with a check which is the way I normally pay for my purchases, I gave the Macy's employee my driver's license. She then pushed a box with numbers & told me to enter my SS#. I told her I had made purchases just last week & did not have to give my SS#, she said it was new store policy. I told her there was no way I would be giving Macy's my SS#, I paid cash & went to customer service & again was told this was now store policy. Also, they're not asking for SS# if you use their Macy's card or any other credit card. I E-mailed Macy's & the response from Credit Customer Service, Colleen McGuinness was that Certegy would be handling all checks processed through Macy's & this information is required by them, Ph# 800-770-3792. I called & a recording ask to list date check denied, I never got to talk to anyone at Certegy. I tried to call Macy's customer service 866 593-2543 & no person, only a recording about my account or if I wanted to make a payment on my Macy's account. ( I don't have a
Macy's account, nor do I want one)
When there is such a concern over identity theft, why would Macy's think their customers' should trust Centegy with their SS#. Macy's is the only store requesting this information for check authorization.
No longer a Macy's customer.

CREDIT CARD SCAMS
Macy's is running a credit card scam. I am sure of it now. The first time it happened to me, I gave them the benefit of the doubt. But it happened again. This is the 2nd time. It is not going to happen again because I will never do business with Macy's ever again.
Here is what happened:
I was shopping and the clerk said that if I applied for a Macy's credit card that I would save X amount of money on the purchase that she was tendering. She pointed out that Macy's offered additional savings on a regular basis to their credit card purchases. So I opened a credit card account and purchased the items that way.
I didn't receive the first bill until after the due date and there were late fees. I always pay my bills as soon as I receive them. The problem was that I didn't get the first bill until after the due date. So they was a large late fee and interest. I called customer service and the woman I talked to was nice about it and waved the fees. So I thought that it must have been a mistake, and that since they handled it fairly, I would keep the credit card. Then I found out that I had a VISA also. I didn't know that they had issued 2 accounts. This was confusing. I couldn't believe that I had opened a VISA account without even knowing that I did. It was my understanding that I was only opening 1 account - a simple Macy's charge account. So I asked the Macy's representative to close the VISA account. I didn't use my Macy's card for quite some time after that - at least a year. I was shopping there recently and made a fairly large purchase on my Macy's credit card. They offered 10% savings, so it seemed worthwhile. I planned to pay it off as soon as I got the bill. I knew in the back of my mind that a bill would arrive shortly, but I wasn't spending all of my time looking for it. After all, I am very busy. I work. The bill came and I thought to myself, Oh good, I will pay that today. I opened the bill, and was shocked that it was already past due and once again there was a huge late charge and interest charges. I was angry. I called customer service right away and explained to the guy who answered that this was the first bill that they had sent me, so it seemed unfair to charge me the late charge and the interest. This time I didn't get anywhere. The guy shot back at me with a bunch of canned responses. One of the things he said to me was "You still owe the money even if we don't send you a bill... You are still responsible for that charge" . I told him that I was going to never shop at Macy's again. It is clear to me that it takes a while for the first charge to kick in, so by the time you get the first bill, it is late. I normally don't have problems with my mail, so it is unlikely that the bill got lost in the mail. Long story short, I paid the bill the next day in person, and then closed the account the following day. I will never do business with Macy's ever again, with or without a credit card. Never again. Never, ever again. I told the woman that handled my in-person payment that I was going to look on the internet and that I was sure that I would find complaints similar to mine. So I looked and found this site with many complaints and some of them are indeed very similar to mine. I believe that Macy's tricks their customers so that they can make money charging fees. I am responsible and pay my bills on time. I am offended by the way that Macy's tricked me multiple times. Macy's needs to shape up. They need to be accountable.

I feel its discriminatory
It is disgraceful that Macy's gives discounts to clients that have a credit card. The ones that dont, or cant get one do not get the same discount. I feel its discriminatory, and they need to give the same percentage off at the register whether you have a card or not.

internet "shipping fee"
When I went to order online with Macy's I discovered they kept increasing the "shipping fee" the more items I ordered. The first time I called they said, after a long painful call, to a heavy accented woman, that she would adjust the fee. When order confirmed the large fee still there. When I called back second woman, speaking into a scratchy microphone, said "we charge not by the items but by the price of the item. I said so if I order a 4 pound item for $20 you will charge $6.95 but if I order a $100 item you charge $12.95. She said yes. Each $50 of price adds on another level of fee. $200 item, same weight, same address, would cost $23.
They gave me a $10 credit after I complained, but I sure wont order on line with them ever again. PS their website ordering process is painful to use.
