They sent me a renewal notice for Vanity Fair to which I subscribe. I thought nothing of it and paid the bill. By the time I realized that they had charged me twoce what I normally pay and had extended my subscription to 2010, it was too late.
I called thier toll-free number and got a recorded message saying "all circuits are busy, please call back". This went on for 2 or 3 days. I finally reached thier Customer Service Dept and was told my request would be "considered" and I would recieve a reply in 30 days!!! I asked if this meant that I might not recieve a refund and was told that this was the case!!! I immediately asked to speak to a supervisor who proceeded to tell me that thier policy is stated on the renewal form (which it is) and there is a $20 "processing" fee to cancel a subscription!!! This whole thing is a scam. I should have paid more attention but I didn't. When I noticed my error, I attempted to rectify it. Any reputable company would have honored my request without delay. Instead, when I threated to report them to the BBB and Consumer Affairs the supervisor said "are you threatening me with slander" What is that supposed to mean?
