Taking Advantage
My mother was solicited on two separate occasions to purchase magazines.. She has very bad memory loss and she didn't remember signing up. They took over $200 from her account beginning in Feb through May. I cancelled her debit card and contacted that company.. They requested a note from her doctor stating her condition which I did. The owner (Sally) said that she would cancell the account but she wouldn't refund any money to her. Of course I heard this from one of her collectors and was assured she would call me regarding this.. No call..nothing. This company likes to take advantage of senior citizens on fixed incomes. How sad is that? I don't recommend ANYONE using this company... Taking money from an old person that doesn't remember... THEY OUGHT TO BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES!

Did not pay for subscription renewal at Golfweek Magazine
US Periodicals called and offered me a 3-yr. renewal of Golfweek for $97.50. They charged it on my
credit card and was paid. Golfweek informs me they never received the money and is not extending my
subscription. US Periodicals of Phoenix, AZ sent me a paid receipt. Several phone calls later no one
has returned my calls. I have since found many complaints against this company, thus another one
from me.

Dishonest Scammers
WOW-- I don’t know how these people sleep at night! They lied and scammed me and now they are threatening to take me to court. First they said I could not cancel but the guy who claimed to be the GM said he would lower my monthly fee. What did he do--HE RAISED IT! He placated me with his personal extension and promised to help me if I had problems. As it turns out he is NOT the GM and the extension does not exist. I can’t believe I fell for it and now the legal department is pursuing me! What a nightmare! Don't make the same mistake I did and steer very clear of these crooks.

never subscribed
A postcard arrived today, with text as follows:
Dear Customer: thank you for participating in our program. As of this date, we have not received your remaining balance for the magazine/s you have ordered. The payment that was made to the solicitor was a down payment and our office copy of the recipt indicates a BALANCE DUE as shown above. As your "mail-in" copy states, your order is processed only after the "mail-in" balance is received in our office. Please include a copy of your receipt and this card along with your payment and mail to the address below. This is necessary for our office records. Most publishers ask to allow 90-190 days for service to begin from the date of final payment. Sincerely, Customer Service.
Flord Agency P.O. Box 480309 Delray Beach, Fl, 33448
There is a big bold print statement on top of that green postcard: Your balance is PAST DUE.
The front of the card, in addition to (correct) address and name, boasts letter/number code FC59294; Nick Fun Puz & Gms 6; Total $24.95; Balance $9.95.And: "Thank you for participating in our program. Please see the other side of this card to view important information regarding your order.
Small problem: No order was EVER placed. No downpayment was EVER made. No solicitor was EVER seen, and s/he left NO copy of ANYTHING.
Advice: If you receive a "past due" notice from Flord Agency in Delray Beach, Florida - think: have you REALLY ordered any magazines from that fraudulent and scamming outfit?

Fraudulant Cancellation Policy
I was called by the Family Readers Club back in February of this year, and the women with whom I spoke was wonderful. They lured me in by saying that Bank of America (my bank) had entered me in to a million dollar sweepstakes. She also offered me 1, 000 dollars worth of ten dollar coupons for signing up; I figured that this was worth it in itself. When I asked her what I needed to do if I ever wanted to cancel I was asked, " why would you want to do that?" I stated that these were tough times, and that I didn't know what would happen in the future. She then stated that I would have to call the toll free number the cancel; she never gave me a certain amount of days in which to cancel by.
When my husband returned home a half-hour later, I told him what I had done. We both agreed that it was pretty stupid and that I should call back and cancel. It was no more than an hour after the time of purchase that I called back; I had to leave a message. So I gave her my land line number to return my phone call, and a message stating that I wanted to cancel.
She called me back about three hours later. When I explained that my husband and I discussed the purchase and decided that we needed to cancel she told me that this was fine. She asked me to give them five business days to process my request and that my account would not be charged.
April 2nd the amount of 39.95 was debited from my account; I called once again, and once again had to leave a message. This time I left my cellular phone number with them (I work out of town during the week), and told them that I had already canceled please contact me so we can resolve the issue. No one ever called me back.
Three weeks later we got more magazines in, and another statement for billing; I called again, and told them that someone needed to call me back or I was going to contact the BBB. Again, no one ever called me back.
Two weeks ago, I received a phone call from "Justin" asking me why my account was delinquent. When I explained the situation to him, he stated that they had no record of me ever canceling.
"Justin" has called and spoke with me twice since then, and every time I have to explain the same thing to him. The second time he called, I told him that I had already contacted the BBB. He stated, "That's fine, we have the best rating that a business can possibly have with the BBB." When I told him that they have an "F" rating with the BBB, he continued to argue with me stating that he "checks the BBB website every day."
Guys these people are liars and cheats. The only fault of our own is that we fell into their carefully crafted trap. In these times, offerings of food coupons and gas cards can be a "hook, line, and sinker" for 70 % of the struggling economy.
I move that all of us report the Family Readers Club to our local BBB's. I am also going to research the motions for a Class Action against the company. These people know what they are doing, and luring us in with false promises of monies and coupons. I am certain that they sleep well at night; I would to if I didn't have a conscious.
My only regret is not taking down the first and last name of the woman I spoke with when I canceled: lesson learned.
