Magic Jack Reviews

Very unreliable program
I purchased my Magic Jack a month ago. It is not reliable. Sometimes I can't get it to dial out. Sometimes other people can't hear me. Sometimes it works. There is a beeping noise on the others line. I hear it once in awhile. I definitely would not by it for my primary line. I use my cell phone for incoming calls and then save some air time by using Magic Jack for my outgoing calls.

You and the person on the other end of the line, will not be able to here anything
We have internet so we thought MagicJack would be perfect for us. One of the reasons we have the internet, though, is because we have two avid online gamers in the household. You can make a call while logged into an online game, however, you and the person on the other end of the line, will not be able to here anything.

MagicJacks claims you will be able to use your internet/ computer while using the product but this does not seem to be the case of any online gamer.

It has been close to 1 year since I bought the Magic Jack Product, and during that year were problems through out
It has been close to 1 year since I bought the Magic Jack Product, and during that year were problems through out. Starting with the so called trying out the product for free for 30 days, the company did not happen to mention that if you use a debit card and you will be charged the full amount on your debit card. After I relized the charge I still went along with the product because the excitement was still there to try the product out. When I finally received the product, there were constant problems with using the product on a on going basises. There would be moments when I would be able to use the product where no one would be able to hear me, or static, or just dropped calls. Futhermore, when I would contact their tech staff online with a problem such as this particular episode,

Charles: Hello, how may I help you?
Erich Jackson: I cannot use the system at all. I can' t make calls or receive them
Charles: I am sorry to know that you are encountering problems using magicJack. Let me assist you with this.
Charles: Are you able to see MagicJack's display on your computer screen ?
Erich Jackson: I keep getting a error message that says audio system is not installed
Charles: I am sorry to know that you are encountering problems using magicJack. Let me assist you with this.
Erich Jackson: My speakers work
Erich Jackson: My friend and I check the ports and everything is fine, so I don't know what the problem is.
Charles: One moment please...
Erich Jackson: I may not have it connected right, who knows.
Charles: This problem can be resolved by updating the drivers of your sound card from the manufacturer's website.
Charles: To check what sound card is installed on your system, please follow the steps below:
Charles: 1. Go to Start >> Run, type 'dxdiag' without quotes in the box and press OK.
Charles: 2. A dxdiag diagnostic window will popup. Go to "Sound" tab.
Charles: 3. Check the Name under Device information box.
Erich Jackson: check the name under device information box?
Erich Jackson: what does that mean?
Erich Jackson: sorry

Erich Jackson: oh, should I do that while you are here?
Charles: Yes
Erich Jackson: ok. one moment please
Charles: ok, take your time
Erich Jackson: ok
Erich Jackson: I hope I did this right
Charles: Yes, please upgrade your sound driver
Erich Jackson: I went to start as you said, and I did run type dxdiag and pressed ok. and a screen came up that said direct x diagosdic tool
Erich Jackson: I could not find the box that said device information
Charles: Click on sound tab
Erich Jackson: oh wait I did find something that said device
Erich Jackson: do you want the information I put down?
Erich Jackson: from it
Charles: Yes
Charles: please
Erich Jackson: ok, sound max digital audio
Charles: Please upgrade from sound max's website
Erich Jackson: I just did the upgrade right before I contacted you.
Charles: ok
Charles: Thank you for your patience. I will transfer you to a higher level of support. Please hold while I transfer you.
Please wait while I transfer the chat to the best suited site operator.
You are now chatting with 'Kiefer'
Kiefer: Hello, how may I help you?
Erich Jackson: well do you want to read Kiefer what has already been tried so we don't duplicate the questions all over again.
Kiefer: Hi Erich.
Kiefer: Please allow me to review your previous chat.
Erich Jackson: If you don't have it I have saved it and will post it for you.

Kiefer: I can read it Erich.
Kiefer: One moment please...
Erich Jackson: I just did a sound check on my audio sound, and it works
Kiefer: Thank you for holding Erich.
Erich Jackson: but your system is still saying no output nor imput devices found
Kiefer: Were you able to see the sofphone on the screen there?
Erich Jackson: oh yes, it is there as clear as day
Kiefer: Okay.
Kiefer: Were you able to make and receive calls?
Erich Jackson: I can enter the numbers, but no sound, and it does not dial when I pick up the phone.
Kiefer: I see.
Kiefer: On your magicJack, click menu and volume/headset control. Can you toggle between telephone and headset there?
Erich Jackson: what is so weird is I can search on the web and listen to different things on my speakers but not this magic jack system.
Kiefer: I see.
Kiefer: Are you using a telephone handset?
Erich Jackson: just a regular phone that is hooked up to the computer
Erich Jackson: I have not tried calling my number since I have been working on this problem
Kiefer: Okay.
Kiefer: Please go to menu on your magicJack, click headset/volume control and lower the volume for both microphone and speakers to about 1/3 of max.
Erich Jackson: I am sorry, but where is all that located?
Erich Jackson: I found it
Kiefer: It is there on your softphone/ black dial on the screen.
Kiefer: Okay.
Erich Jackson: for some reason no amount of lowering or raising is listed.
Kiefer: Okay.
Kiefer: Please try to connect your magicJack to a different USB port.
Erich Jackson: I try to click into these areas and nothing comes up, I try to click onto the drop box and nothing comes up.
Erich Jackson: I try to click into either the telephone, or headset area to put a check in the box and nothing.
Kiefer: Does your magicJack reads "Ready to call"?
Erich Jackson: the only thing that moves are the speaker and microphone sliders.
Erich Jackson: Let me see?
Erich Jackson: yes
Kiefer: Okay.
Erich Jackson: would there be a problem with me not connecting properly if I have xp as my system?
Kiefer: Please click menu and volume/headset control. Can you toggle between telephone and headset there?
Kiefer: If you're using a phone, please choose "telephone".
Kiefer: Is your Xp a service pack 2?
Erich Jackson: yes
Erich Jackson: I think, how can I be sure
Kiefer: Please click start>Run>type Winver
Erich Jackson: I just checked, it says pack 1
Erich Jackson: Will your company be having soon, Tech support through a regular number rather than online?
Kiefer: I see.
Erich Jackson: What is I see?
Kiefer: Please be inform that magicJack currently runs on Windows Xp Service Pack 2, Vista and Intel Based Mac.
Erich Jackson: but what does that have to do with the audio errors that I am getting, it says nothing about me not having the right system for the equipment.

The staff were not always helpful, but more arguementive then anything else. I understand the product allows a person aan opportunity of saving a lot of money, but at what cost. The product would be better developed, and the tech staff could be much more knowledgeable about the product when it comes to assisting customers with trouble shooting issues. The FTC should force the company to use disclaimers about the charge to those customers, who use d debit cards, and one should be allowed to return the product for replacement, especially if the customer pays the shipping, without being charged a additonal fee to have another Majic Jack sent out. So my advice to anyone looking at this product, is buyer beware, you get what you pay for. There are too many flaws, and issues to deal with this company, that warrants buying it.

It is one of the most frustrating experiences I have ever had
It is one of the most frustrating experiences I have ever had. There is only a chatting service. People giving you totally different advice, not solving the problem.I lost connection with them several times. It was really bad. It is not as simple to use as it is advertised. I think that they are underserviced when it comes to tech support.Yes, you save money but you will be very frustrated...

Stay far away from Magic Jack
Magic jack works fine most of the time but with some incoming and outgoing calls you get a long piano like ring tone which doesn't let you answer the phone and my answering party can't answer me either.

Not as advertised
I purchase magic jack because I felt my cable phone was getting too expensive. First off, their caller ID only works on the PC screen, not on your phones. Then their website said it would work with wireless phone... it doesn't. Then there was no sound on the pc speakers & no one with customer service could fix it. When the phone did work the reception was horrible. The contacts list didn't work either. I kept adding contacts only to have them all dropped after I re-booted the computer.

Very disappointed. I wasted 6 hours trying to get the dang thing to work, including 4 hours on their customer service "chat." No I will waste more time take it back to Best Buy for a refund.

This was a very bad experience trying to get the Majic Jack to work
This was a very bad experience trying to get the Majic Jack to work. The only help is on line and I spent nearly 8 hours chating with 9 different operators trying to help me get the device to work. It became evident that the operators have a number of limited tricks to try to get the device to work and then they switch you off to someone else who try the same things. I returned it and gave up.

overcharge
Canceled my order and they still charged me TWICE on my account at the bank causing an overdraft on my account. You can not talk to a REAL person, you only do a live chat on the internet and get an ugly response saying it has been credited back to my account and they have not! Why do they not have a phone number to get in touch with someone to get these things taken care of...now I am out of almost 100 dollars and an overdraft fee...

Awful product with terrible call quality
Magic Jack, I purchased a Magic Jack from your web site. I followed installation instructions and No Dial Tone. I returned my phone and purchased a new one. Still No Dial Tone. I move the Magic Jack between different Laptops and a Desktop and still No Dial Tone. Next I went on line to Magic Jack web site and started an on line chat. About 1-2 hours into my chat, that I thought was going to correct my problem, I downloaded the upgrade and installed it and my computer locked up. Back to the Magic Jack web site and another on line chat and went over pretty much the same scenario. Another step by step and then to a more intelligent tech, just like the first chat and upgrade and install and then lockup and reboot and back to another online chat. The total time of online chats with, what is supposed to be the top techs for Magic Jack and the last tech had me sit so she could make a report for the Engineers and then was told I would be contacted about my problem. It’s been 3 days, No contact. I started to wonder, IF Magic Jack is so good, WHY did I spend about 4 hours typing through an online chat? I was typed out and WHY, IF Magic Jack is so good with Voice Communications, wasn’t the tech and I talking over this FREE phone communications? I have been to my local electronics store and voice my opinion about Magic Jack to prospective customers and the sales associates and all I get is I didn’t realize it had these problems and customer support doesn’t appear to work, unless you want to type you life away. I don’t figure I’ll get a response to this email, BECAUSE, you don’t want to communicate this way. So, unless you have someone there that is Willing to talk to me and assist me with my problem. I’ll just keep telling people what I thing of Magic Jack. I can call through my computer, by clicking on the phone number on the computer screen, BUT no Dial tone on my phone.

Save your money and get a real phone
I can make calls, but after a few minutes the call quality is intermitted and then the call drops. It is still good for the answering machine function, that way I don't have to give my cell phone number to work. Save your money and get a real phone.
